The Cook county board just passed a county wide assault weapon ban.

Exending it from just Chicago.

All those legally purchased weapons are just mowing people down in the streets.

Its for the health and safety of the children after all.

Any details on exactly what the ban covers, and details such as grandfathering, etc?

If you're referring to the thing that passed like 89%-11% on election day, that was just an advisory referendum with no legal effect.  They also passed one calling for an increase in the minimum wage.

Re-edited to un-strike the above until I see a link with some back-up for this.

All of you people that continue to toss around the term ex-post facto should listen carefully:

None of the gun ban laws have anything to do with ex-post facto.

An ex-post facto law would punish a person for doing something that was legal at the time, but later made illegal.

These laws would not punish a person for owning an "assault weapon" in the past.  That would be an ex-post facto law.

They will punish a person for continuing to own the "assault weapon" and failing to make it inoperative or turn it in to the police.  That is not ex-post facto.

WTFO??? Whether the NRA or any other gun lobby group does anything doesn't matter...What I can't figure out is why the fuck everyone asks that question...
Like the NRA, GOA or any other group has a magic wand or holds some sort of special powers....
One of the reasons gun owners in this state....hell in this country are in such trouble is IMO...largely due to the apathetic attitudes a large majority of gun owners have about their gun rights....Always looking for someone else to stand up for them....
I know a number of hunters, trap and skeet shooters that truly beleive their firearms are safe from the gun grabbers.....Wrong.....in case you didn't notice those fancy auto loading shotguns (semi-auto) make the list as well...None of us is safe from the rabid gun grabbers...Trouble is....we all need to get off our complacent dead ends and do something about it....OURSELVES!! Don't wait for the NRA, GOA (yes I am a member of both of these groups and others as well) or others to do what we need to do ourselves. Vote the gun grabbing bastards out of office....become active in your area's gun rights groups and clubs...Do something....anything.....

Is that a Cook County-defined list? If it is it's been revised as the previous (and standing, I believe) legislation named Colt AR-15 specifically, overlooking many clones. Unaware of this I brought my SP1 into a shop for some work... Although the rack was lined with Bushmasters, when they saw the "Colt" name they acted like I had lobsters coming out of my ears. "Get that thing out of here! You can't have one in Cook County!" And it's only because of Chicago.

The irony is that Mayor Daley is the biggest gangster of all.

Not long after, I moved to a less slightly retarded county (unfortunately, still in IL).
