Will the next attack here on our land come by the dreded Nuclar Bio or chemical?

I think that it is a real threat and will be a bad one if they do fire off another round of attacks.

What are your thoughts on it.

Should people run out and start buying masks and militay surplus biosuits? I know that the nuclar threat is the worst and hardest to bear.

What meds might be a good idea to keep on hand for such an attack. Note not many here can get high end meds. So what off of the shelf stuff would be best to get? At leat hold you over until you get real medical attention.

Or am I just being paranoid and need to borrow a tin foil hat?[:)]

If you had come running, screaming on this site about a week ago, saying that 4 hijacked civilian a/c would be crashed into the WTC and Pentagon, everybody would have rolled their eyes, put out the Tin-foil hat carpet for you to slip on, to make you go away. NOW.... well, anything's possible, esp. after we make our first foray against whoever these swine are.

As for NBC, what do we do, carry a monkey suit and gas mask around with us everywhere? Chances are, by the time we figure out what it is, we'll have breathed it in, and it will be too late.

Not just NBC, have to worry about ABC, CBS and CNN as well.

Somehow I knew that was coming.[:D]

Of the three types of threats, the one to be concerned about is the biological. A chemical attack would be a high lethality event in a local area. A nuclear event is devastating and would affect a region, with of course a fallout plume. A biological attack is the gift that keeps on giving.

I am struck by the amount of planning and preparation that went into this attack. I am also struck by the stupidity of the hijack teams that were intercepted tonight. It seems that at the high levels of the operation, meticulous preparations were made. Now that we are T + 60 hours, the parts of the operation that were interrupted by our flight Stand-down were resumed as if it were only a delay. This indicates to me that at the field level, these goat herders are not capable of operational flexibility and the ability to change strategy in the face of changing circumstances. I can guarantee you that if either of these teams had actually tried to take over the aircraft they attempted to board, they would have been taken off the plane in pieces. Yet they don't seem to recognize the window of opportunity has passed and there is now a certainty of failure. They are basically drones. Wind them up, point them where you want them to go, and watch bump into the walls they weren't expecting. Yet there may be a couple of teams out there that were able to think on their feet and will take some catching.

The part that concerns me is whether the planning included a biological attack. If it did, barely enough time has passed where we would would even begin to know, since the incubation periods for any biologicals would be measured in days and when it started, would not be immediately recognized. Especially in light of the distractions on the east coast. Ironically, the longer or slower an infection acts, the more it would spread since the infection would spread while incubating in a longer contagious period. This may be another reason for caution before resuming air traffic. With aircraft grounded, an infection is much better contained locally. However, in our favor is the fact that biological weapons would be mostly a borrowed capability, and even Saddam Hussein would probably be reluctant to assist for the risk of being reprised.

If confronted with a biological attack, the best option will generally be to shelter in place. An outbreak in urban areas will result in infected refugees carrying the scourge with them to surrounding areas as they flee.

But I will say, so far so good. Let's pray it stays that way.

Well, one problem here.  These people were released and not charged with any wrong doing.  You need to keep up on the news... they mentioned this yesterday evening and again splashed it all over network news this morning.

They are well organized and they haven't displayed an inability to be flexible as you claim.

Don't under estimate these people.  They are professional terrorists and to make an assumption such as the ones you're making right now are deadly to us.

These people can move quickly, can manufacture crude weapons from commonly available items and they have a support network with MILLIONS of dollars backing them.

They have the ability to deliver simple biological weapons into our major cities.  This is actually much easier than what took place Tuesday.  That's why the FBI and CIA have been anticipating such an attack for years.  This also proves our enemy is crafty in that they specifically chose NOT to use the much anticipated method of attacking us and used a wide open avenue, commercial air craft.

I've always traveled with what most people would consider to be a huge knife:

And I've commented to my friends about how lax security was to let me on board with my knife.  A couple of times I was stopped and told to put it in a box and place it with the checked luggage.  The next time I placed it in my carry on bag and never had a problem again.

These terrorists knew this too and exploited it.  They undoubtedly know of other holes in various security protocols and will exploit them too.  Places such as nuclear power plants, water supply stations, food distribution centers, private aircraft, etc.

Don't under estimate your enemy, it will get you killed.

I should also mention that since the day of the attacks I started carrying the following to work EACH day now:

Blackhawk 3 Day Assault Pack
M17A2 w/hood
First Aid kit
Full NBC suit (new, in wrap)
MRE (1)
Flashlight
Two bottles of water
Knife

It looks like just another backpack that everyone else carries to work.  I'm keeping this just to get me out of the city and back to Indiana where I'm in a more rural setting.  I work in Chicago.

Also, I'm no longer drinking tap water in the city or drinking unbottled cokes in restaurants.  I'm only drinking bottled items for an added measure of security.

I made my statement based on the latest info I had. And I certainly wasn't underestimating anyone, which is why I was struck by the arrests. It makes more sense the way it turned out.
