A good free one is AVG, IMHO.

I use AVG at home, but I did pay for a subscription.  Good service, and a two year subscription for the same as a one year Norton subscription.

The only thing I don't like is it tries to run a full scan every day if the machine is rebooted (basically tries to run every day upon the first boot/reboot of the day).  No option to reschedule it, or make it go every X days.

www.avast.com

Been using it on all of my computers for several years now.  Works just fine, and is free for home use.

Look at NOD32, it will take far fewer resources to run and it seems to catch more than Norton.

Isnt Avg going pay only?  I got some message about my free AVG was expiring, and a link to all the pay products they offer.
