I must relate what I overheard in Barnes & Noble last night.

I was browsing the refernce shelves, and about five feet away a couple of typical looking (punk/emo/goth) teenagers were sitting in a chair having a conversation.  One girl, one guy.  Guessing fifteen, since they were waiting for a parent to come pick them up.

Nothing special about that.  But a topic of their conversation perked my ears up.  I don't know what they had been discussing, sounded like politics, but then I heard those magic words, "Gun Control".

Curious, I kept browsing, but listened.  (Yes, I know, eavesdropping is bad, but it's in public...)

The guy had made some remark about rights, and the girl's response was this:

Yeah, it's like that gun control bullshit.  It isn't right, it doesn't do any good.  Besides, it's in the Constitution.  They shouldn't be able to pass laws that go against the Constitution.  People have to be able to protect themselves, and if I want to buy a gun to protect myself then I should (be able to).

The guy agreed, and they talked on about protection, revolution, and the constitution.  Bright kids.  I browsed beyond earshot after that, but I had to hid the big smile on my face.  As the two of them made their way up front to catch their ride, it occurred to me that maybe we aren't quite up a creek yet.  Maybe there are some in the younger generation who are immune to the brainwashing.  Maybe there is hope.
