USPS should not even bother with it anymore.  heck I have packages delivered weeks ago and the "tracking" still says it is at the distrobution center.

If you're lucky, AFTER it's been delivered.  $2200 in postage last year, not a single "tracking" number was active until after it was delivered.  Even then, it was about 30-35%.  If it ain't UPS, FEDEX or DHL, you are tracking 16 digits of air.

If you are lucky it might actually tell you if it was delivered, but as far as trying to find out the location of package in transit you might as well forget it.

I had a package being delivered by mail that always said only that it had been checked into the distribution center.

I had a package coming by UPS that was shipped from Texas to Pennsylvania. The package was delivered while the tracking information said it was just checked into Anchorage.

If you're looking for fedex or ups style tracking use those carriers, the USPS "tracking" system is the suck. It will tell you the package has been delivered and that's about it, no info while it's in transit.

+1 tracking sucks. UPS has the best software.

As far as I know, the USPS doesn't track packages. They simply confirm delivery. Look on the label and it says "Delivery Confirmation." It's a common misconception that it's similar to UPS or FedEx tracking. It's just to make sure that something was delivered so somebody can't say "OMG I DIDN'T GET IT!"

Delivery Confirmation does just that and nothing else.  Still it will usually deliver long before being posted
