it could have been locked for  numerous reasons, like if the topic did not belong in the forum it was in, if someone was being a smartass, if it was a dupe topic and sometimes the moderator is wrong for locking it.  They do have a tough job so I tend to give them the benefit of the doubt.

If you want to know why your topic was locked just IM the person who locked it.  It will be the last post in the thread and that is who locked it

I think the problem was that the original poster made a duplicate post in a second forum.  I responded to one, then I saw the other without any responses.  When I checked to see why my response was not there, I read that it was a dupe.  

Check the CoC.  You are not allowed to make duplicate posts.  The moderators will lock one.

it turns out that that is the reason, a duplicate post. being my 1st day of posting i didn't realize that i was doing something wrong. thanks for your response. i had posted this first on the optics forum.

it got locked because you had duplicate threads about the same topic, so the mods locked one.
