Lots of people have made remarks about truckers being stupid or doing it because they can't get any other jobs.  Well, there are some good reasons, here are a few highlights.

The desert south of Barstow, CA

Sunrise in the rockies.  Somewhere in Washington.

Northern California.

This is how you tell your in California.

I think Forest Gump ran this in the movie

A huge descent to cross the Columbia river, only to have to climb right back out of it.  Bout half an hour to travel 4 linear miles, about 13 driven.

sorry for the dirty windsheild on that one.

Northern Oregon fields

Hazy Oregon sunrise.

It's runs like this that make me love my job, and I've become more patriotic the longer I do it.  Seeing so much of our country and it's beauty, so much untouched (cept for the roads) land gets to me really bad.  In 7 months I've been to 43 of the lower 48 states.  I've encountered great people, bad people, and everything in between.  Had Clam Chowder and lobster at a cafe in Maine, Memphis Bar-b-q, Chicago pizza, NYC hot dogs, Carolina burgers, and Pennsylvania Dutch cooking. I've had Etouffe and crawfish in a crap hole of a town in Southern Louisana with fried gator for appetizers.

I've seen cars roll off Detroit and Flynt assembly lines, driven onto Russian flagged ships in Baltimore harbor to get loaded. Dealt with DC traffic, and had days where I could drive 11 straight hours never touching the brake. Watched big iron projects go up, and old buildings come down.   Of course it's had it's ups and downs, but I've learned a lot about the country and it's people I never knew before. And I've got paid pretty well to do it.  I've learned something about Arfcom to.  Anytime I post that I'm going to be heading through somewhere, there are always several people that invite me to go to dinner or have a drink with them.  This job has made me more proud than ever to be an American.  So the next time you wanna trash what we do, chill out for a second and think, that as much hassle as their is, we sometimes consider ourselves the luckiest people on earth.

Ok, the sensitive douchebaggery shit is over, proceed with your regularly scheduled posting.

I was in Logistics Management for a while and I absolutely LOVED it. I'd give the truckers disposable cameras and tell them to bring me back the world and they always did. And a shot glass from every place I sent them to. :)

I love the trucking industry and plan on trying to get back into it.

We do monthly idle and fuel bonuses.  If you get certain levels they pay you another 2 cpm for the entire month.  I'll hit it this month, my mpg is at 6.5 average, and idle is 3% for the month.

Last month it was at 52%

I love it here, I'm making incredible money.  And despite all the myths, I've had the miles and been fairly busy.  I've sat a little, but breaks are nice when your runs give you 4.5 days to make 2700 miles.

Yep, one of the things about trucking that make all the rest of the crap worth it.

These are from a run through Utah into Colorado.

Just kidding.  It seems a lot of people don't like truckers and think they drive rudsely.  More seem to now than decades aqo.   But a lot of people even miss the most basic physics involved.

No, Donna, that truck CAN'T stop that quickly just because you just GOTTA make your turn and your beat-up mini-van coughed and quit as you turned in front of him.

Yes, when he swings wide on a corner, he's gonna come back.  Trying to squeeze through is NOT a good idea.

Yep, the truck DID have to operate on less of a gap to pull onto your road.  The breaks are a lot smaller when you have a lot of weight to move.

But I will say, it seems like where there used to be a lot of trucker courtesy, now theres less.  It seems like developments in the industry have resulted in an influx of less-courteous types.

The passing-light-flicker thing is seen a lot less here in CA.  I've almost given up on using it since it's so often not acknowledged.
