Why do truckers feel the need to try and control traffic? ALmost got into a fight today because some trucker decides he wants to play traffic cop. Parts of the highway around indianapolis were blocked of for construction, so traffic was narrowed down from 3 lanes to 2. A truck is partially blocking the far left lane so no one can get in front of him essentially shutting the left lane down. Problem is its more than 2 MILES to where the road narrows. There is also trucks in the other 2 lanes. I am driving in the left lane gettting kinda pissed that there is 1.5 - 2 miles of CLEAR left lane ahead of this truck, so I go to pass about 1/4 of the way into a VERY wide shoulder (shoulder is almost 12ft wide). This ASSHAT almost jack-knifes his rig to cut me off. I carried too much speed in the shoulder (my fault, not blaming him for that), if I had hit my brakes, I would have skidded due to road debris and gravel. So I take my only other option and thread the needle between him and the other truck. The truck that had cut me off almost came to a complete stop so I went back over to the left lane and continued up. This guy doesnt know when to quit. As I am getting up to the merge point, I have a line for truck that wont let me over. He drives up behind me and sets his brake (I am stopped at the merge because I cant get over safely). He gets out with a fucking baseball bat and starts walking up to my vehicle. I have two choices, get out and Draw Down® or drive over some cones up to the LEO sitting with his lights on. I chose option 2. I get up to the LEO car and get out and tell him what happened just as ASSHAT drives up in the blocked off lane. Cop jumps out of his car and starts yelling at him to stop NOW. He gets him out and reaches in and grabs the bat. A few minutes later LEO comes back up to me and tells me to get moving. I continue on with my day, trucker stays and chats with LEO for a while. ETA: This is NOT a bash on ALL truckers... Most are good, hard working people. I know that. |
|
So, are you one of those guys who stays in the lane being shut down until the last second, and then expect everyone to let you in front of them. While everyone else that saw the lane was ending got over and patiently waited in line. All of the people who cut to the front make it take twice as long as it should to get through the road construction. |
+1 |
+1 I will block the other lane every chance I get!!!! If these people would just merge in rather than using the "me first" mentallity the traffic would continue to flow at a pretty good clip |
Who made you god of the fucking road? Lemme guess your a super trucker, right? You cause more problems by doing that. As long as you get through thats all that matters. |
What you a tuff guy ??? Morons in cars are just that morons DO you own the road ??? Your little Honda will not win over my Pete . Stay out of the way . We drive for a living and your the last person I need telling me how to drive , with over 1 millon safe mile's . Putting up with cagers is part of the job . Go away . |

I am not a truck driver. I have a class B CDL, and have only driven for hire once. That was enough for me to respect the shit semi drivers go through. These guys drive a vehicle the size of a house down the road. They have to use mirrors to see around them. They often can't make turns because people aren't curtious enough to get out of the way. Often they are lost. They know where they are going, but haven't been there before and aren't aware of all the pitfalls. I've blocked traffic for a semi that was having trouble getting into the right lane. I've stopped to give directions, with cars honking at me. And I've ran interference in a situation like you mentioned. Truck drivers can't always stop in the same distance a car can. All a truck driver needs is some idiot cutting in front of him at the last second. I'm not "god of the road", but what I"m doing is no more wrong than those people who cut past a long line of cars only to force their way in front of a truck. I wasn't there, but it sounds like you might have deserved an ass kicking. |

I drove 18-wheeler for 2 and 1/2 years. I swore I would never go back to it. I didn't quit because of other Trucks. I quit because I felt sooner or later I would end a car drivers existence because of stupid driving on their part. Virtually everyone on this board has driven a car, go walk a mile in truckers shoes and operate an 18-wheeler for a while then report back how you feel about truckers. |

Everyone in the closing lane has to choose where to merge over. The obvious choice is near where the cones begin to block off the lane. Where else should you merge? 100 feet ahead of the cones, 1000 feet, 10000 feet? The construction guys put the cones at point X, merge near point X. How hard is that to understand. How close to point X should you merge? It depends on how fast is the traffic moving. Obviously you need to leave yourself enough room to brake and avoid crashing into the cones if some self righteous POS tries to prevent you from merging in. In stop and go traffic, drive right up to the cones and then merge. In freely flowing traffic, as soon as practical after you see the signs is probably right. All you guys that think you should merge long before the cones, are nuts. You are just screwing the guys that are driving in the continuous lanes, in favor of the people that are driving in the discontinuous lane. If everyone in the discontinuous lane drove to the cones and then merged, the traffic would be just as bad, but at least all the lanes would suck about the same. You early mergers only succeed in making the continuous lanes suck substantially more than the discontinuous lane. And, since suckiness is a non-linear function of how long any individual is stuck, you actually make the average suckiness of a construction zone greater. Thanks a bunch! |
this is why ass holes end up as truckers. they dont have to interact much, and when they do, they have their 80,000 pound penis extensions to back them up. your gonna wind up dead one day ass hole. truckers are by and large, (with some exceptions) gigantic asshole bastards, that cant find a real job. |
| We heavy haul (105,000) and while I agree the trucker went to far I have been in his situation myself, I actually had a moron tery to get inside me once while I was moving. My trailer proceeded to drive up over the hood of his Honda. He came out yelling at me and I'm glad I had a cheater iron in the cab with me. Untill you have put up with the shit of all the other motorists you dont know how we feel. Have you ever seen what a truck will do to a car full size or compact it isnt pretty. Just moving slow can really fuck up someones day in a mild hit. He probably had his bat out not knowing how you would react. I have been cussed out and threatend many times. You made the right choice as YOU have no business pull your pistol out UNTILL you know where the situation is going. I have used my cheater as a visual tool just so stupid fucks will stay in their own zone and leave me be. I also pack so if the situation goes south I'm not bringing a cheater to a gun fight. I have seen where car occupants have been killed by trucks for being stupid, just trying to get ahead?? I saw a truck that tore the side off of a Yukon one time where the truck other than some paint on the rims and a flat looked perfectly unharmed. Maybe he just saved your life. Maybe not I wasnt there. I just know how we are treated in general and it sucks for the most part, we are put in jepoardy daily from other ass hats with their head up their ass's. |
doesnt matter. the guy got out of his cab, with a weapon, and approched the driver. TOTALLY justifiable draw down. even if he was "protecting his space" which is bullshit. you drive on the roads, you follow the rules, and if you come at my "little honda" with a bat or a "cheater", prepare to have a pistol in your face. |
|
I wish that during road construction they would tell you what lanes are going to be closed a lot farther back. A lot of times they don't in St. Louis area and everyone gets bottlenecked in the last 1/4 mile or so and turns into a total cluster. What is really fun is 4 lanes merging into two and all 4 are all filled up all the way up to where 2 of the lanes are blocked. |
You Sir, should not be driving Too bad you got away from him, maybe he would have knocked some sense into you,,,OH, I forgot you are a tough guy with a gun ![]() |
So which part of the CDL test did you have the most problem with when you failed it? |
No, I am no tough guy however that doesnt mean you're not... ![]() You people think I dont know what I am doing... Screw off. I drove a truck for 2 years. I would have NEVER attempted what this guy did. NEVER. Anyone who is defending this IDIOT'S actions are the ones who need to take a lok at what you are doing then QUIT. There is NO defense for PURPOSELY putting ANYONES life in danger. NONE. Dont try and tell me what I did was wrong. You wernt there. 2 miles of clear lane wasnt helping anything but this assholes ego. I know how to merge and I do it safely. I dont wait to the last minute, but I also dont MERGE 2 MILES ahead of where I need to. Last time I checked a CDL is NOT a LEO badge. |
No, they wernt... You guys kill me. I bruised his EGO, evidently yours too.
|
LOL, not mine pal a bit too old and experienced to risk my life over a few minutes wait just so I can cut line. Waiting in line was one of those things I learned in grade school. Tj |
Right, did you start waiting in line once you got off the bus or inside with everyone else. If the construction crews had needed that 2 miles, they would have put cones there. You are NOT traffic inforcement, you are a trucker. You do your job, I'll do mine. Threaten anyone with a bat lately? Also I am sure you a bit "old and experienced" to jack knife your truck and purposefully cause a wreck, too. But you keep defending this asshole. |
I am not questioning that. I wouldnt be here bitching if I got a ticket. I would have deserved one. Once again, truckers are NOT on the road to enforce law, but to move goods from point A to point B. |
|
I can't help but think that truckers get sick of watching people drive like asshats all day. Hell, my commute isn't but about 10 minutes and I get sick of watching people be asshats. There's a point to be made here so I gotta ask... How much time did you save by being in a hurry? |
FOAD gringo. You should boycott everything delivered by truck. |
Note, I am not bashing ALL truckers either. I've done the job and its not easy. Truckers driving like NASCAR is unacceptable NO matter what I did. |
You're killing me pal. ![]() I'm not a trucker, never have been, nor do I care to be. To answer your question, yes if there is a sign that says lane ends and I see a line, I get in line. I don't hammer down in the open lane nor do I go on shoulder. I'm not defending the trucker for two wrongs don't make a right no more than him doing wrong made your wrong right. Do youself a favor, slow down a little and smell the roses from time to time. You will live longer. Ten minutes simply isn't worth risking your life and others. Tj |
Well lets see, 2 miles of traffic traveling at 5 MPH that I was able to pass in under 3 min, you do the math ![]() |
Well...seems like there were at least 2 which combined for a bigger problem. Deputy Trucker with a baseball bat + Impatient Ian dodging and diving= Bigger problem for everyone else as Deputy Trucker gets pulled over adding to a cluster F. 2 Miles? Really? Did I miss something? After 2 miles of CLEAR TRAFFIC you were still unable to merge in front of Deputy Trucker? I've tried to figure out this equation but I must be missing some variables.
|
- the time you spend dealing with people that want to kill you with a tackhammer. |
|
Just for the assholes here... Next time a car tries to beat me to the barrels and cut in at the last second...I'm not going to hit the brakes this time. The fucker is going to run himself right into the barrels. Last pick-up truck I saw do this on I-35 in Moore totalled his vehicle. It said "get r done" in big letters on the rear window. LOL he got r done all right. |
Sorry for the assumption. BTW, there was no sign that far back... It was at about a mile. I didn’t merge because there was a Semi chasing me and I didn’t want to be caught were I couldn’t maneuver... |
I was wondering when this would come out! |
Hey man I am not trying to be an asshole. I know that most, by far, truck drivers are professional and courteous. Hell, it doesn’t bother me in the least bit when they block off lanes at a half mile or less. Fine. However 2 miles is too much and his reaction was unacceptable. |
Meaning??? I was merely referencing the race last week that had everyone so riled up... |
best one I ever saw was a corn flakes truck didn't brake and dude in a Lincoln towncar took out approx 6 barrels, a sawhorse and buried the towncar up to the windshield in a pile of hot mix gravel. |
Sorry, edited to be more precise as to who I was talking to, which wasn't you. |
Meaning, You think you can drive your car down the road making and breaking the law. Truckers, on the other hand must drive professionally and put up with your wild west driving! |
