How do I shut off the hot water supply to the house? I need to replace the valve under the kitchen sink. There is a valve on the hot water heater, but I think it is the cold water in pipe. |
| The hotwater supply to the house is the out pipe on your water heater. If you don't have a valve there, then you have to shut off the cold water supply to the water heater, cut the power off to the water heater, and drain the tank to keep water away from the valve you are needing to change. |

You can shut off the cold water inlet and achieve the same result. Ideally the HWH would have both inlet and outlet valves but not always. If need be you can shut off the entire water supply to the house and bleed off the pressure at a faucet. the Hot water system is really just and off shoot of the whole system anyway. |
No doubt some of what you hear is true. It is up to you to decide what you want to believe. We don't all look like we stepped off of the set of Deliverence and you don't all act like the dorks in Fargo. |
![]() Well this thread has been Hijacked. |
Hijacked your ass! I answered the question with my first post. From here on it's bullshit time. |

I've had slow running water in the bathroom and kitchen since the city replaced my water meter this spring. I think I'm going to replace all the valves while I'm at and see if it helps. Having an older house sure teaches you a lot about home repair if you're too cheap to pay someone else to do it. |
