How does the match program work?  I'm considering taking the MCAT next spring, but if I get into the local med school I would prefer not to move to finish my training.

After u finish school, you get your recommendations from people in the field you want to go into.

After that you fill out an EAS form that will list your qualifications and your choice of places for a specific residency.

The hospitals programs then will offer those they are interested in interviews.

They will then rank their choice from 1 to whatever amount they are interviewing.

You rank the programs you want.

The whole cumminates in a school lecture hall where they announce the MATCH in Feburary.

Those that do not match or dont get residencies then go through the SCRAMBLE.  Spots that are left over at programs are swamped with faxes of applications.

The hospitals take the best qualified thats left.

Occasionally the hospitals and candidates will get a little illegal and sign a contract outside the match.

Its usually if you see a first round draft pick and want them bad.  The hospitals have even been known to offer a little scratch under the table.

Be smart and go do something else for a living. Youll make more money with less stress. Its not too late for you.  It is for me.

I started out as premed, so I have all of the classes to take the MCAT.  I wanted to just to see how I would do.  If I did well enough I thought I would apply.

I've been leaning towards nursing school and was actually accepted for this fall.  Family finances prevented me from going.

Go ARMED FORCES

You get your tuition and books paid. You get a nice stipend to live on while in school.

I've looked into that, not sure I can afford to support the family while in boot camp.

Sure you can thats just an excuse to not commit. They will give you at least $900 a month. Thats what my friend was getting 10 years ago.

You wife will have to work or go live with the folks while you are away.

But the rewards are worth it in the end.

That is a bullshit answer.  Any American that really wants to goto school has a way.  It may not be  the most pleasant or nice. But if you really want it you can do it. In no other country is this possible.

That kind of negative thinking will keep you in the minimum wage bracket for the rest of your life.

Big steps are required to gain big rewards.

The Lord will only help those that will help themselves.

So get off your ass and go sign up and make something of yourself.

The  better life your children and you will have later will be worth it.
