Don't put Wayne's avatar up as your tribute.  I know you mean well, but it is a painful reminder to us that our dear friend is gone.

I identify that avatar with Wayne.  My head knows he is gone, but ...  seeing his avatar just hurts in a way that is hard to describe.

It is 'just the Internet' and you are free to ignore this request, but... please?

Good call TRG, can we get some staff help with this.

I would suggest a black "mourning swath" much like you see LEOs do on their badges instead.
These are generally worn until the services for the departed are over.

Agreed (and it's a tad confusing...minor point), but could we leave it as a suggestion? I'd hate to see staff getting heavy handed over it. One person feels better by seeing it, and another is hurt by it. Neither is ultimately right or wrong.

It's a good suggestion, though (my opinion).

Something like this

That would be it.
But then again, to each their own.

I agree...bump

His passing saddens me greatly, and I never met him. You who knew him personally have my deepest sympathy.

Seeing his avatar being used by other board members bothers me as well, even though the intent is to show respect. I would rather they use their regular avatars.
10/2/2006 1:34:57 PM EDT
[#11]
Most definitely agree. Most avatars are unique and are identifiable to one person.

The Hun avatar should be respectfully retired and not used again on this site...
10/2/2006 1:38:41 PM EDT
[#12]
I was thinking about it, as I will miss him, and wanted to honor him. A page full of Huns.  I had no thought to the downshot of it, and thank you all for stating it.

I changed my avatar title, instead.

[#13]
Good idea.

Think I'll call it a day on here, I am beyond sad.

They just don't make people like him everyday, it's a great loss to me.

I still can't believe this has happened.

It happens to all of us Bro.
The trick (and hard part) is to be as well respected and loved as he was.

[#17]
He was the first person to welcome me to the ARFcom team.

[#18]
i don't think it is something staff should be called on to enforce but i certainly understand where TRG is coming from. when i saw that today i was a upset over it myself.

the avatar belongs to one person and one only. It should remain waynes exclusively.

Sig test.

Agreed. I understand the idea behind it, but it seems confusing and can be painful to those who know ETH very well.

I hadn't seen this thread, else I'd have posted this here originally.

I am the creator of the tribute avatar, and if any fault or blame is warranted for it, it is mine alone.

No disrespect was meant. Quite the contrary. Based on the notes I received I decided to drop it for good, and asked others to do so as well. I suppose this thread but the icing on the cake.

We know Zaphod. I used it this afternoon as well. Everyone knows that no one meant anything bad but simply showed their respect by using the avatar...
