What is the worst damage you have done to yourself shooting? For me, I was shooting lightbulbs in a dump and some of the glass came back and cut open my forehead. I bled so bad I had to stop shooting. I have also cut my arms & hands sometimes with jacket fragments coming from shooting pepper poppers too close. The worst an actual gun did to me was slide bite from a PPK clone. |

When I was 14 y/o, I shot my granddad's 30.06 with a scope. First time I ever shot with a scope. I had my head too close to the scope and suffered an impact cut. Blood leaking out of my head, and I all but passed-out from the impact. For a moment or two, my field of vision was gone and all I recall seeing was what can be best described as the "snow" you see on a television when the picture is gone. I still have a semi-circle scar above that eye. The other incident was due to some dumbass with a .38 snub and when the gun crossed my path - I grabbed the pistol to keep it from me, and it discharged. Blew a chunk out of the flesh and a small part of the hypothenar muscle. To this day I still ahve numbess in that area. |

Permanant hearing damage caused from shooting my new Taurus M44 (ported) without ear protection about ten years ago. I got some nasty powder burns from my jackass friend who came up behind and next to me with his S&W.357 that has a large cylinder gap. One time i was shooting a Kodiak .58 side by side and had a musket cap leave metal shrapnel in my wrist that's still there 20 years later |
First time with a scope on a .270 (the one I raffled off, in fact) I busted the skin on my nose - not bad, a little blood trickle, but enough to remind me that the cheek weld for an AR is not the same as it is for scoped weapons ![]() Stock 1911 mags pinching and cutting palm skin under fast reload. Slide bite from same. Sore nuts from a challenge from a friend to put the rifle to my groin and pull the trigger. Never do that with a .308. It hurts. Very much badly. I don't care how tough you think you are, if you have coconuts swinging in the ol flesh sack a .308 and a dare are NEVER going to be good for you. |
| I fired a double charged round through a 1911 while using my truck tool box as a rest. The double charged round bulged the barrel, blew the magazine out of the well, and disentigrated the grip panels. I received a face full of plastic shards and my right hand went numb for a few hours. No permanent damage. |

I had a MAS 49/56 KABOOM on me when I fired a second round with a squib bullet lodged in the barrel. The action blew up and drove the bolt into my forehead. Burned fragments were splattered into my face. The wound was a cookie cutter shape of the rear of the bolt. I still can't believe I'm not dead. I found every piece of the rifle except that bolt. It must have bounced pretty good. ![]() I had safety glasses on and my eyes were fine. I was a safety Nazi before, now I'm worse. |

Buddy had an ancient HighSTandard 22 revolver with bad timing, it kept splashing me in the face with leqad. Thank god for eye protection. Burnt my leg ont he barrel of my AR, I fired like 3 mags, then slung it across my back. Hot barrel on the back of my right calf. I still have a bit of a scar. |

Shooting last week I took a 7.62x25mm casing to the head from my CZ-52. It left a nice cut. As many might know, a CZ-52 will easily throw the brass 20 ft or more. Well, I was shooting at an indoor range and the brass hit the wall of the booth (only 1' away) and then headed straight for my head. When my buddy starting shooting the CZ-52, the brass would actually bounce off each wall of the booth a couple times, back and forth, before it fell to the ground. Those casings must be moving a pretty good rate to do that. RF |
My dad had the same injury from shooting a 30-06 bolt gun... The worse I have had happen to me was a SIG 226 that ejected a round right into the bottom of my eye protection. Left a nice mark underneath my eye but, it went away after a month. The other one is my thumb was bit by a Desert Eagle... Thank God it was a baby Desert Eagle...

Hearing Never pull both triggers on a double shotgun while holding it in the crook of your arm, buttplate against bicep. Only made that mistake once. ![]() dad has gotten his thumb sliced open from slide bite a few times (wrong two handed grip) Girl I used to date got punched in the chin & bit her tongue from a pistol gripped shotgun. Didn't stop her from shooting, she was having too much fun (first time shooting exp, she liked the 10-22 & SKS a bit more than the 12g pump for some reason....) |
paging BrianCav....![]() Ripped a thumbnail off while loading an SVD magazine. The second bullet from the top in the stack had slid forward and got caught on the front of the mag. I tried to use the base of another 7.6254r to push it back, but it slipped and the feed lips did the rest. It took about a month to regrow. |

Shooting down trees with a 12 ga, bounce back pellets, nothing serious. Cleaning my Rem 870 receiver, very sharp ledge in there. Good long cut on finger. Shooting an old truck, had a 22 bullet riccochet off the steering wheel and catch me on the neck, right on top of the Caratted(sp) artery. That was my one warning from God not to do that stupid shit anymore. All I had was a welt. Tried to aim a pistol grip shotgun. Nuff said. Had the slide close on my index finger (Beretta M9), to which the Gunny next to me said, "That's why we don't rack the slide that way" Never made that mistake again. |

Brass burns; - took a 5.56 down the back of my collar, from a girl shooting next to me. She felt bad. - took a .22 in between my sunglasses and eyelid , Eye use real safety glasses now.worst injury from working on a gun, was the first time I pulled the stock off of a FAL without the spring tool! |
|
Lets see. . . Garand Thumb AR pinky brass burns many times. (Worst was a case that went down my jacket sleeve while I was slung up during the 600 yd prone stage. Sat there till it cooled cause I didn't want to break position. Shot a 195, so it was worth it.) Had a bullet hit the target frame and fragment, I ended up with a nasty cut on my toe, guy next to me had some fragments in his arm. And a bump on his head from when the target fell on him. (Bullet hit and broke the stand, causing it to fragment.) |

12 years old, Mom and Dad's basement.. my first bb gun... parents not home and me breaking every rule of their oppressive eddicts regarding it's use.. to include using it all when they weren't there to supervise I had the enemy in my sights, the evil red forces had taken up positions on the fireplace mantle, I was hunkered down behind the couch. I eeked over the top and began to take out red with my trusty Daisy high-capacity pump master 760... seems like I could fit almost 50 rounds in the hopper.... light, lethal, highly accurate... my sniper skills could not be matched, even with iron sights.... I was winning the war... only one enemy remained, the campaign had been a long one but I secured a kill with each shot. On the last man, my lethal bb fell low and missed it's mark (bad ammo of course) and ricochetted back, striking my CLOSED EYELID... it was at least three weeks before I would touch that gun... for I had indeed almost shot my eye out. No permanent damage, but my vision was blurry for a minute or two. God must indeed bless children and fools... |
Have you had your head x-rayed? |
| I was shooting at a steal plate with a USP 45 and a chunk of the round about the size of a .22 in diameter came back and hit me in the quad. That shit hurt, and blood poured out my leg. Later I went to the hospital and they told me to leave it in. The copper jacket was too torn up and shredded to remove. More damage would be caused trying to remove it. Moral of the story, steel plates are a bitch!! |
