Anyone ever take one of these apart? Obviously it's a pretty simple mechanism, but were there any surprises? Anything that would keep you from doing it again? Was it a pain to put back together? Did things go flying?

I've got one of the Pardue 3550s and the spring broke.  I took it apart and tweaked the spring by trimming and reshaping it a bit....no surprise, it broke again.  Benchmade won't sell you any parts, they'll tell you to send it back to the factory for warranty repair, but you're gonna have to send in a photocopy of your LEO/Mil credentials if you want to get it back.  Even though auto knives are legal in a lot of states, they flat out refuse to send one without the LEO/Mil ID.

If you can actually find a torx tip small enough to fit the screws, it isn't too hard...just remember that the spring needs to be wound a full 180 before you put it back together....and it helps to have 3 hands for that operation.  Another tip is to assemble/disassemble it inside a large clear plastic bag...stuff is gonna go 'fling' no matter how careful you think you're being....don't ask how I know this.

Non-LEO Oregonians can buy them without anything other than a driver's license.  I believe there is a federal law concerning auto knives, but since they are made here, I can buy one (not interstate commerce and all).  Also the factory is about 15 miles form me, so if it ever needs fixing, I can just run it over there.

I think I might get one...

Curiosity - how much do they charge there, prompt?  Full retail?
Wondering where to get one, or if I should just get a microtech.
