Every Sept. it is Realtor Safety Month, and every Sept. we get shoved down our throats the way to escape a choke hold, or how to stomp the bad guys foot to escape. But every Sept. the mere mention of concealed carry being a viable option is passed over. It is very frustrating to say the least.

I've written an article that has gotten a huge, positive response from my fellow CCW Realtors across the country. It does the heart good!!!

REALTOR SAFETY

My wife is a broker/manager for 70 agents in this area.  I know this is a concern she's had for many years, considering the increasing number of oddballs in the world.  It is the simplest thing in the world to get a female agent to meet you at some isolated empty home without even giving your real name.  Frankly, I'm surprised this isn't a more common issue.
As a former defensive tactics instructor, I can tell you that most, if not all, of the tactics you learn in those classes will fail you if they are not practiced over and over again.  The same goes for carrying a weapon.  Practice with it as often as you can and then practice some more.
I'm going to show my wife your article.  Thanks for posting it.

I agree with you! They are teaching a false sense of security with these 3 hour classes. I am not a petite woman, but I know that I do not possess the upper body strength to fight off an average sized male.

I've been in some WAY scary situations with real estate, and I take comfort in knowing that at least I can even out the playing field!

And agreed also, you have got to practice on a regular basis!! I try to practice weekly with my carry gun.

Now if the message would get out to CABOR and the other area boards and perhaps classes offered.

Good job Linda!  The good news is that from discussing this in my office it appears that more agents carry than we'd ever assume.  I knew a realtor who was killed in the Seattle area a few years ago while showing a home.  That was my wake up call.

It just makes me feel warm and fuzzy when I know there's more and more agents carrying. In my mind, why in the world wouldn't they?

I switched offices the beginning of the year. I had a very frank discussion with the broker before signing on. I will NEVER work for an office that does not think enough of their agents, that they would think of posting the office. The wonderful thing is...,my broker carries and assurred me he will NEVER post the office. I found out while being there, there are several who have their CHL's!!

I will be instructing a CCW class in Oct. At least 3 students will be real estate agents!

Where will the class be?  If it was close enough to Cleveland, I'd get my wife to go.

Hey Linda, GREAT article!!

I am a Realtor here in Indiana and since day one I CCW for EVERY open house and meeting with any new client.  Many times I have voiced my concerns at many of our monthly meetings  about the safety of all agents during these odd times.  I have been poopoo'd and told that I am being paranoid.  Many of my fellow REP's have no idea the risk they take daily.

Do you mind if I pass your article on to others so they may read it?

Please, pass it around!!! It's pretty much made it to every state by now, been posted on a couple blogs, and posted on the website corneredcat.com.

I'm actually on the far east side of Columbus!
