[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Flamethrowers... (Page 1 of 2)

| Are flamethrowers available on the market for purchase? For some reason I have a hankering to have a flamethrower, that would be a hell of a shtf tool. |
the best they can do is a 6ft flame? bah i want something more like 20ft ![]() ive been thinking about a flamethrower too... |
|
Flamethrowers are perfectly legal to own, but not very easy to find. You can sometimes find one for sale at a gun show or on gunbroker. The only other place I can think of to find one is a farm and ranch supply store. Flamethrowers are unrestricted, except in California of course. |
I was thinking one that uses like a diesel/gasoline mixture or something like that, I wasn a 35-50 foot flame |
hehehe yeah i think were about on the same page..... now... where to get one... |
I'm not settling for this sissy Super Soaker stuff. I want metal tanks... but the biggest concern for me is having the proper ignition device. I want a gun type on the M2A1 flamethrowers the military used. If I had that, I'd make the rest. |
Awesome, I definitely have no techinical ability to design that kind of stuff. I can put it together, but thank god engineers exist. |
My only problem with that is that it isn't new, and if im going to have compressed flammable fuel on my back, I'd rather have new components that are less prone to leaking or breaking. However, this right here might be just what I need, the next thing to make will be the portable fuel cells. This model is designed for liquid fuel: ![]() ETA: Nevermind, this device is designed for propane. Scratch that idea. looks like I'm off to the drawing board! |
|
If this doesn't give you a stiffy... god help you: www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRGB7RtWr10&mode=related&search= |
Sorry if I intimidated you. I wouldn't want to go up against me either. |
Then we would really be talkin thrust per squeeze! ![]() If only I had plans of an M2 I could make one. |
|
No promises, but we shall see. If I had the drawings, I could see how viable it would be to make one. The thing that bothers me is that this isn't like wrecking an R/C plane. It is like my friend who built rocket engines. He fucked up and almost got killed. I also know a guy who is going to build a Bell Jetpack too. The silver catalyst, hydrogen peroxide one. He has a complete machine shop and is serious. |
You're right, but we can see how good my aim is with a flamethrower ![]() I'd be willing to risk it, I think there would be a market for it. Safety first of course |
I saw that earlier, I don't know if I trust PVC for this, and metal will allow a higher PSI for operation I'd assume. |
One shot to the fuel tank... Hasta lasanga, don't get any on ya.... |
|
I feel you, and I have researched this as well. Unregulated as firearms, and you should stick to factory flame throwers, not something some goober cobbled together. Call your state forestry departments - that is where I found a few, though Maryland was not willing to sell to me. Killjoys. ![]() You can also make the trek to Knob Creek - I bet you could find one there. |
|
I would be cool to get an ATV and a flamethrower then build an radio controlled flamethrower tank. You could drive it around your yard and set shit on fire. It would also be neat to make a simple, reusable shoulder fired rocket. That had a chalk load in it. Wouldn't need a guidance system. That way you register the reusable part of the assembly as a DD and the launcher. Then you just keep reloading the missiles. Make it look like an RPG and it would sell. |
FWIW, I dont believe this is true. The entire unit is legal except for the igniter on the end of the front pistol grip. I believe this piece is considered a destructive device by the BATF. When I was a kid (early 1970's) the local Army Surp. store had 2 of these things. Went in one day and they were gone, owner said the Guuvment came and got them???????
|
Do forestry departments used liquid or gas fueled devices? |
They were the old mil. flamethrowers, DRMO'd out. So the gas/diesel mix. |
Odd seeing as how one could simply replace that igniter with an electronic device that produces an arc and achieve the same thing. Actually, come to think of it, a 100kV stungun with the contacts bridging the muzzle with the transformer near the end and the batteries/switch being back toward the pistol grip thus eliminating much extensive electrical insulation. |
i'm just guessing, but it may have turned out to be stolen government property or something. |
The President of the United States takes pride in presenting the MEDAL OF HONOR to CORPORAL HERSHEL W. WILLIAMS UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS RESERVE for service as set forth in the following CITATION: For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty as Demolition Sergeant serving with the First Battalion, Twenty-First Marines, Third Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Iwo Jima, Volcano Island, 23 February 1945. Quick to volunteer his services when our tanks were maneuvering vainly to open a lane for the infantry through the network of reinforced concrete pillboxes, buried mines and black, volcanic sands, Corporal Williams daringly went forward alone to attempt the reduction of devastating machine-gun fire from the unyielding positions. Covered only by four riflemen, he fought desperately for four hours under terrific enemy small-arms fire and repeatedly returned to his own lines to prepare demolition charges and obtain serviced flame throwers, struggling back, frequently to the rear of hostile emplacements, to wipe out one position after another. On one occasion he daringly mounted a pillbox to insert the nozzle of his flame thrower through the air vent, kill the occupants and silence the gun; on another he grimly charged enemy riflemen who attempted to stop him with bayonets and destroyed them with a burst of flame from his weapon. His unyielding determination and extraordinary heroism in the face of ruthless enemy resistance were directly instrumental in neutralizing one of the most fanatically defended Japanese strong points encountered by his regiment and aided in enabling his company to reach its' objective. Corporal Williams' aggressive fighting spirit and valiant devotion to duty throughout this fiercely contested action sustain and enhance the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service I saw him interviewed on the History Channel- Pacific- Lost Evidence- Iwo Jima. He said, "The life of a flamethrower man lasts about 6 seconds." Apparently that big flame draws lots of incoming rounds. I'll have to pass. |

I think it would be neat to mount one on my truck. Maybe mount the tanks in a steel plate box with one side (up or back) left open so if things went bad all the bad stuff would blow the other way. Big crank on the inside of the roof to aim the nozzle. Yeah, that'd do it. |
|
Check this site out Flamethrower forum BTW, if you find a wand for an M9 in your search, I'm looking for one for my display. Pete |
| It must be flamethrower season, here's the thread I've got going in iowa hometown forum: link. |
I'm pretty sure that self-immolation voids your life insurance policy. |

I'll have to pass.
