WBAL Baltimore Study: Assault Rifles Tied To Crime Wednesday, September 06, 2006 WBAL Radio's Robert Lang and The Associated Press Members of CeaseFire Maryland and other gun control advocates released their study on assault rifles outside a pair of Parkville gun shops. The one on the left, Valley Guns, lost its license to sell firearms earlier this year. (Photo by Robert Lang) Lisa Delity, President of CeaseFire Maryland cites a new study on assault rifles at news conference in Parkville today. Semiautomatic rifles and shotguns are used in a crime in Maryland on average once every two days. This is according to a study released today by gun control advocates, including Howard County Delegate Neil Quinter and CeaseFire Maryland. The study is based on an analysis of crime statistics for 1998 through 2001. It said at least 789 semiautomatic long guns that can legally be sold in Maryland were traced to a crime in Maryland during that period. The gun control advocates say their research shows that Maryland needs to expand the 1994 law that bans the sale of semiautomatic pistols to include rifles and shotguns. Opponents argue that such a ban would infringe on the rights of lawful gun owners and would do nothing to reduce crime because such guns are seldom used to commit crimes. CeaseFire Maryland held their news conference outside Valley Guns in Parkville. The gun shop lost its federal license to sell fire arms earlier this year, because authorities found the store's owners were violating Federal gun laws. Quinter cited statistics compiled by the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence which shows guns sold at the store were traced to 11 homicides, 41 assaults and 49 drug crimes. "There's a direct link between responsible gun ownership, responsible gun store management and the use of guns in crime," Quinter said at a news conference today. Quinter also accused Valley Guns owner Sandy Abrams of selling his inventory who opened another gun store known as Just Guns, next door to Valley Guns on Harford Road. Quinter says the move is perfectly legal. An employee at Valley Guns told WBAL News that Abrams was on vacation and not available for comment. The employee also said the only relationship between Valley Guns and Just Guns, is the owner of the second shop rents space from Abrams. Abrams is a board member of the National Rifle Association. |

Before a tragic boating accident, I owned several so-called "assault" rifles and semi-automatic handguns, and never once committed a crime. Of course, when I owned said weapons I never lived in Maryland, maybe that's why I never committed crime. Maybe if I lived in Maryland and owned an EBR or semi-auto handgun I would snap and become a crime lord or street thug. |
![]() Assault rifle =! semiautomatic rifle. "Assault rifles" are select-fire, AUTOMATIC rifles. They fire more than one bullet per trigger pull like a machinegun. "Semiautomatic rifles" are NOT automatic - they fire only ONE bullet per trigger pull. The only "automatic" part about these rifles is that they will automatically chamber the next round unlike manually-operated bolt-action or pump-action firearms. They are no more lethal nor do they fire any more bullets than bolt-action or pump rifles do. They are NOT "assault rifles" or machine guns. ![]() But far be it for any "gun-control advocates" or their parrots in the media to get even the most basic facts about firearms right. ![]() |
Neil Quinter is an ass.
So-called "assault pistols" are banned outright (e.g. TEC-9). "Regular" semi-auto pistols can be bought, although with a number of restrictions. They have to be on an approved list, come with internal lock, and include a fired shell casing for "fingerprinting" (even the State Police have said "fingerprinting" is a total waste). They are also categorized as "regulated weapons" (as are AR-15s, FALs, etc.) so you have to be certified to buy one (certified = watch a stupid video) and they are subject to an extra background check (with $10 fee) and associated waiting period when you purchase. |
OK, so did he break federal laws or is he a responsible gun store owner? You can't have it both ways. |
Bad GUNS, very bad...

Yeah, you caught that too, huh? Here's another doozy from CeaseFire Maryland's website:
Which one are you? I must be a deranged lunatic, since I am certainly not a cop-killer or a drug dealer. On the other hand, since the term "assault weapon" is a nonsensical fiction of the gun-grabbers, it is impossible to own any such thing, making me none of the above. Perhaps Neil Quinter and CeaseFire Maryland are the deranged lunatics, since they are the ones who seem to be delusional with impaired connections to reality. Isn't that an indicator of psychosis? |
Here's what the quote shows:
May want to show the skeet and quail folks that their semi-auto shotguns are showing up on the grabber's RADAR. |
One of the first rules of the scientific method is to obtain data in a neutral, reproduceable-by-a-third-party fashion. I'll leave it at that, since this no longer constitutes a study, and is instead propaganda. |

Jesus, I love reading shit like this. Really cracks me up. They're almost as bad as celebrities, getting their opinions from another source and stating them as their own. What happened to good old fashion research from government doc's and direct from crime reports? Has anyone read the study on "Sporting purpose of Semi-automatic assault rifles" Put out in 1998 by the ATF? It's histerical! Instead of sending surveys to people who deal in the weapons in the study, they send a survey to people who lead hunting trips. They include their response(rather the atf's take of their responses) in the end and it's pretty damned funny. Anyone know where to host a PDF file, i'll post it. |
Aight, found a place to host it. www.file.sc/d78d33/complete.pdf Scroll down and click download file. lemme know if the link doesnt work. |

here is the CeasefireMD study: www.ceasefiremd.org/Reports/CeaseFireMDAssaultWeaponsStudy.pdf Basically, they are counting up BATFE trace data and claiming "trace = evidence of violent crime." The report also specifically calls for banning the Mini-14 because it is a semi-auto, AND because it doesn't usually count as an "assault weapon." The "hunting types" can stick that up their 7400's and smoke it . . . |

Try to find an "M2 kit". They always claim you can "buy a kit at gun shows to convert to full auto". That has not been the case for many, many years. As far as "easily adapt to accepting up to 30 round magazines", any rifle that accepts a detachable magazine does not need to be adapted. All you need is the large capacity magazine. So, that is a silly argument. Why not just say, "we think all guns with detachable magazines should be banned," and be done with it? Why pussyfoot around? "There are many accessories available, such as forward grips, flash hiders, and ventilated tubes, which when applied to the gun make its intent..." If the M1 Carbines were all magically removed from the USA, the manufacturers would make these items for other guns, such as 7400's. If there is a demand for such items, someone will make them. So, they ban the M1 Carbine today, then the Mini-14 tomorrow, the 7400 next week, then whatever is the next favored gun after that. It will never stop for these gun grabbers. |

"Quinter also accused Valley Guns owner Sandy Abrams of selling his inventory who opened another gun store known as Just Guns, next door to Valley Guns on Harford Road." apparently they don't know how to write coherently at WBAL either. This issue must be important to them though, if they found time to break away from telling us for the 50,000th time that we all must watch Katie Couric in order to remain accepted members of society. I went to Just Guns on Sunday just to check them out. I've been looking locally for a Norinco SKS to round out my collection (While I love my EBR's I've always been an SKS fan) and you have no idea how hard it is to find one around here until you try. I called Bel Air Gun and Pawn and they told me they had two, they wanted $575 and $675 for them. And yes, those numbers are correct. Unfortunately I found that Just Guns is closed on Sunday but it was my fault for not checking first. Looks like they plan to be there for quite a while though, they put out the money for a big lit glass sign up top.

Law Enforcement Agencies run traces on guns they come into possession of all the time when they haven't been used in any crime at all. For example when there's a dispute over ownership or they're turned in by family members of deceased owners. And I would also bet the bulk of those guns they listed are not from different incidents but the majority were from multiple gun traces relating to a single incident. I had to laugh at their description of the SKS as a "post-ban version of the AK-47." Which they then go on to say was introduced in 1945. Okay, a post-1993 rifle which came out in 1945. I guess when you're a schizo moonbat (or in Sarah Brady's case just a schizo OLD bat) it makes sense to distort time, just like the truth. |
