I have been thinking about the Naval Reserve.  I'm not prior service and my job won't allow me to be gone for Basic.  I know they have raised the age limit (I'm 38) so I'm wanting to get more info.  I don't want to go straight to a recruiter, so I thought I would check here to see if anyone was already in or knows someone to contact.

I have 18+ yrs active, but I couldnt tell you much about the reserves. We get the same unit out of DFW that come to Guam for 2-3 weeks every year and they love it.

For them it's an all expense paid vacation on a tropical island. They stay in one of the best hotels on the beach and party every day.

Aside from that, I have no idea..

Good luck.

here be a difference

your job workload wont let you go, or your employer wont let ya go? t

Whats the name o that law that protects members of the militry from getting cut loose/terminated from thier employer while on active duty?  convince the employer that also applies to basic  - they gotta let ya go

It can be done.  One of our former officers went in about 2 years ago.  He wasn't prior service and he only have to go to a 17 days camp.  Then it was just 2 days and 2 weeks.  Unfortunately I'm not in contact with him anymore.

Cheif would have kittens.  He can't terminate me but I would suffer.  It's not worth it.

Reserve (All services) and NG (Army/AF) have programs where basic and/or OCS can be done under the 2-weekends/2-weeks duty cycle.

I dont think that the USMCR subscribes to that one.
