I just drove 1250 miles in 4 days...and am remembering why I like to fly! I'm so sick of sitting, I'm standing as I type this! ![]() I used to fly anything over 6 hours away...I'm down to 4 hours these days. Where do you draw the line, where you choose to fly instead of driving? |

I've driven over a thousand miles a day, two days in a row, followed by a few hundred miles the next day, and never flinched. Then again, I really do love driving, and also got close to 50mpg on that trip. My ass was fine. A couple times I've driven 10-11 hours non-stop, and my ass was fine. Maybe you need new seats! I'm damn near the point of never flying commercial again, but I travel a lot for work and I'm not sure if they will give me the time for driving, or if I will have to use vacation days. They're already refusing to pay mileage (according to co-workers). I'm pretty new yet, so I'm trying to save up vacation days to roll-over/save for emergencies. |

Hmmm. lemme see. I drove from Los Angeles to Albuquerque in one 17-hour shot (stopped for light snacks, stopped at Meteor Crater for the view).... so what's yer problem??? (was appx. 815 miles though.) I may go to a wedding in Octobur... I'll fly if I go. My ass aches just thinking of the last trip! |
I like "road trips." Sometimes driving can be fun, when broken up. I decided to drive this trip for 2 reasons. 1) I wanted to bring A LOT of luggage, and my guns with me. It was easier to chuck everything in my car, and take off...then figure out how to get it all on and off several airplanes. 2) Sky Harbor has a miserable rental car thing. Everytime I considered flying, I thought of dragging my luggage on that rental car tram...then into the rental place...UG!! (I was also worried about being flagged for a cavity search for having guns with me.)

| I drove from AZ to SD in a little over one day. By the time we got to Denver, I was seeing things, after being up for about 26 hours. Would have been in Denver a lot sooner but there were transmission problems I had towing so much in my Ranger and had to wait a few hours for the cavalry to arrive. Stopped for about an hour to rest the eyes and back on the road. Got into Sioux Falls almost 1 a.m. on about the second day. Now even thinking about it I get EXTREMELY tired and can't fathom having to do it again which will most likely be some time next year. At least next time I will have more time and the deadline for turning the trailer back to U-Haul won't be so near. I have no other choice BUT fly when I go home. Ahhhh Hawai'i. Gonna take the ole lady this year in the dead of winter. I can't wait! |

I drive from Atlanta to south FL (west palm, miami, naples, etc) at least once or twice a month for work. It's not bad with a good audiobook and a leg-stretch stop every couple hours. That's about my max driving distance, though. My personal record is ~1200 miles in ~23hrs straight through from GA to NH. Reckless and stupid, I know. |

Longest drive I've been on is Chicago to Lincoln, Nebraska, and that's ten to twelve hours, depending on the driver. That was done five times, four for every year my sister was in college, and fifth was going to a wedding. However my mom, sister, and I are driving to Savannah, Georgia in December. Driving to Nashville, staying overnight and then driving to Savannah. Last flight was to Jamaica, before that was to Minneapolis Minnesota. So it depends. |

I always drive unless I'm on a really tight schedule and have no other choice. I don't dislike flying, I just really like driving. I've driven cross-country (WA -- NY ~ 2500mi) five times by myself. Record so far is about 40 hours total, one way. The scenery and the peace and quiet are just too much to pass up when opportunity presents itself. :) |

I just did a business trip, Tucson to Houston and back. I flew Continental which is about the only airline flying non-stop to ANYWHERE out of Tucson. It's still a PITA, but I didn't have time to drive. In October I'm taking a personal trip to Reno. I'll be driving, through Vegas to avoid even entering Kalifornistan. I figure I'll take it easy and it will take two leisurely days to and from. The gas alone will cost more than a plane ticket, not to mention wear-and-tear on the truck, but it will be worth it to me to not fly. I draw the line on whether it's business or personal first, how far I have to go second. |

I'll drive anytime I'm not required to fly. The only reason I'll fly is if work or emergency time constraints. Why would I willingly want to interact with TSA nitwits? Don't get me wrong, I used to love to fly, but it's gotten so idiodic I'd rather drive. I just plan for a longer trip and put a couple of interesting stops in my itinerary. |
| I drove back and forth from NY to Florida a bunch of times. I drove a friends car from NY to California, he supplied a plane for the ride back to NY. I made another trip from NY to California in a Penske moving truck for the same friend, with a plane ticket back to NY. I loved both trips to California and would do it again. Overall, I prefer to fly on long trips. |
| Depends on what I am doing and why I am going someplace. For example, earlier this year went to the shot show in Vegas. Well, did not have that much tiime off, so flying made sense. I love to drive and stop at the cheasie roadside attractions, but you have to have the time. For me part of the trip is the getting there. I used to live in So Cal and would drive to Denver Co. at least a couple times a year and would take different routs to get back nd forth. I would never have gone to Brice or Zion in Utah - a very beautiful place if you have the opportunity. |
No! Actual driving time was about 4 hours first day, then 5 and a half hours the second day...then 6 hours the last day. Plus a bunch driving around, and getting lost in Phoenix.
