Hello All I have been screwed by the Windows Genuine Advantage. I can plop down 150 bucks on a license for my copy of XP which was already licensed, that is running on a machine that is about 5 years old. Or I can give the big FU to Microsoft and move to Linux. So will a usable friendly copy of Linux run on the 5310US? And what is a friendly copy of Linux to try? Or should I BOHICA for Microsoft? My copy of XP was given to me while in college by the IT guy for our department, he said there was a license program for technical students. Oh well. |

Fedora Core 5 Ubuntu Both are pretty damn good and have very good support for various laptops and other devices. |

1) Download the vista beta, use it for nada 2) There's tools to work around Genuine Advantage. You didn't agree to it when you bought windows. 3) Re-install windows, only upgrade to SP-1, and turn off auto updates. Avoid GA alltogether. 4) You could try Ubuntu if you want to give Linux a go. 5) Buy an OEM version from newegg for 89 |
I believe WINE is an easy download using APT or whatever the GUI front-end is called. |
