I am looking for a new knife. My parameters are fixed blade 6 1/2" to 7/12". This will be my main belt knife. I am looking at this classic piece Knife #1 and also this Knife #2 Now, I am open to suggestions so feel free to post what you think might be the best 6.5 to 7.5 sheath knife around. |

Cold Steel SRK Only a 6" blade and it ain't real pretty but it'll do the job and then some. |
| What is your intended use? I understand it is going to be your main belt knife, but what do you expect to use it for? Are you going to wear it every day? Are you going to try to conceal it? Why so much knife? That is a LOT of blade. (This coming from someone who lover large blades, they just are not practical for most people). barring the above information, based solely on your provided options, I wouls go with the second linl. You are paying A lot for the SOG name on the first one, and for a using knife, alot of the looks of the first one are gling to be wasted. |

+1 - "best" for what? "Best" for what kind of money? If price is no object, then get a Randall, a Busse, or a custom blade. FWIW, my ideal 6" sheath knife would have a broad, convex or full-flat ground blade with a convex edge made out of one of the better steels (154CM, ATS-34, VG-10, BG-42, S30V, 5160, 52100, A2, D2 or Infi) with a good heat treat and a convex edge. Ranger knives make a damn good knife for the money. I have a flat ground Ready Detachment 7. A flat Ground Ready Detachment 6 would be a good knife for your purposes, IMO, but is a different style. You might also take a look at Fallkniven's "Northern Light" line of traditionally styled knives. The blades are laminated with a VG10 core and edge and 420J2 sides. They are very strong. +1 - The Gameskeeper from Bark River will be my next fixed blade purchase. Dozier does great things in D2! If you go Cold Steel, get Carbon V. |

I don't like cold steel. Depends on how much you want to spend. I like the Strider D9, but there are lots of cool Strider fixed blades that you might like (photo from tadgear.com):  More |
My main purpose will be for a SHTF type knife. I think you are right about the looks for the first knife...bling factor. I have hunting knives and carry knives, I don't have a dedicated fighting type knife. I won't be trying to conceal it as it will be worn in a SHTF sitation. |
A Strider would be tough to beat for SHTF situations. They are very durable and next to unbreakable under any normal use and almost any non-normal uses. |

I agree with one of the above posters. If it is a shtf type knive, the srk is a great choice. Not the best chopper, but not too big for the more common fieldcraft type tasks. Edited to add: If you get to the point in a shtf situation where you are relying on your knife to FIGHT with, you are in a world of hurt. |
