I've only lived in this house a couple years, and want to do some painting.

Any ideas on how I might remove the window shutters? They're decorative, ie. no actual hinges. They're made of wood and painted (as is the house). I can see that they're held on by 4 brackets in back, but for the life of me I can't figure how to take them down. There's no visible screws on the front face and there's not enough space behind to access the brackets to unscrew them from the house. I've tried pushing up, pulling down and pulling forward without luck.

Any ideas? I don't want to break one trying....

Why do you want to remove them? I havev some of those on my house as well (you would think in a hurricane area houses would have real shutters??) and ijust painted with them on. I knew somebody that remodeled an older ranch style house like mine and replaced his and he said it was so much trouble it wasn't worth it. Mine was pretty caked up with layers of paint but I sanded them with a couple of orbital sanders, a pull scraper and by hand until they were smoothe. They turned out pretty good!
