Can a UA tell the difference between Darvocet and Vicodin? More info in Team Forum |
Once you can prove that you ahve a prescription for a opiate drug, I would thin kyou should be ok. I highly doubt that the test will tell them exactly which of the myriad of opiates you are positive for, especially since a urine analysis is testing for the metabolites of the drug, which are probably the same for many different opiates. |

UPDATE: Dr called me to confirm RX. He told me EXACTLY the drug (Darvocet) and asked for my Rx number and info off the bottle. He told me the Rx was not for Darvocet but for Vicoden and do I have any idea how I got Darvocet in my system. I told him exactly what happened. He said "well give me the info off her bottle and if it verifies, I will call this a negitive screening" HOLY CRAP!!! BTW, how can he verify her Rx with the pharmacy??? Doenst that violate HIPPA? |
Wow. I am surprised that the test is that sensitive. Hope it works out for you. |
Darvocet is a Schedule IV Narcotic. The DEA strictly controls it's distribution. Your Rx for such a drug goes into a database that is accessable by physicians, pharmacies, and the DEA. This is to prevent abuse of the drugs (multiple Rx's through multiple physicians, getting Rx's earlier than you are supposed to, etc.). I once tried to get an Rx one day early for a Schedule IV Narcotic because I was going out of town and was told in no uncertain terms "No.". Glad to hear you passed your test though. Drug tests can be a major pain when something as important as your livelihood is at stake. In the future, I would keep all bottles (even empty ones) for narcotics you may be prescribed in case just such a scenario should arise again. |
| Hmm... maybe screens for illicit drugs are a little more sensitive, but one of my doc friends says the general tox/drug screens they sometimes do are pretty non-specific. Like, they'll be able to say opiate, benzodiazepene, glucorticoid steroid, but not heroin/morphine/darvocet, valium/klonopin/xanax, prednisone/hydrocodone/aldosterone. |
