Yeah yeah, I know, go see a doctor, but I have a quick question. I'm going to the doctor in a few days to get this checked out, but here goes. I have some kind of a mass under my skin on the back of my neck. I first noticed it about 8 months ago and it felt about the size of a BB, give or take. Thinking it was either an ingrown hair or underlying zit of some sort, I pretty much ignored it and left it be. Fast forward to today, the same bump is now about 3/4" round, wide, and deep in size and is starting to hurt to the touch. It doesn't seem to have liquid inside and feels hard. Any ideas what this may be? And to preempt some smartass remarks, you may not have my guns when I die from this!

Most likely a sebaceous cyst. When it gets opened/removed, there will probably be a fair amount of real nasty pus, plus some thick cottage-cheese looking stuff (we always compare things to some type of food). The cyst sac needs to be excised as well, or else it will likely recur. |
