Islanders. Until you've met them, you'll never understand.

One of my buddies in the Army was Tongan.  Definitely not the kind of person to piss off.  His specialty was breaking peoples ribs during hand to hand training.  I wouldn't want to play 11 pissed of Tongans at anything more than checkers... over the internet.

For those unaware what the hell that was,

In a nutshell,

The Haka (New Zealand) and the variations of the similar chants from the other south pacific island nations is a traditional war dance before going into a battle.

Every rugby player I knew in college was a hard-drinkin', hard-fightin', crazy mofo.  I think it was a requirement to be on the team.  They threw some monster parties though...

Islanders (as a group) are remarkably disciplined, too. In Los Angeles, about 5 years ago, one guy was gunned down by LAPD (32 rounds in him!) and the leaders of the community told them "No Violence! No Demonstrations!" and the community followed their lead.

I wouldn't mess with ANY of 'em. I knew a LA Airport officer... tiny little guy... fantastic with a baton! His trademark was "when his hat comes off, your butt hits the floor in 5 seconds." That's about the time it took him to subdue TWO elephant-sized brawlers!

"Pop" (his hat hits the floor)... Bam! Bam! Bam! (One guy required a followup shot from the baton.) Game over.

Hell of a way to start a game.....Wonder if some of the NFL will adopt it.

I don't know if it would have the same effect when done by only one person, staring downrange at a target.

There's a great scene in the movie Whale Rider where a crop of young Chief candidates learn the meaning of Haka. Great movie altogether.

Big +1

I ran a food bank in Seattle.  2 Islanders would so the work of 20...  Daily!
