Whats your favorite? For drinking straight. I like to have a variety of alcohol available for friends and what not. Vodka isn't my drink so I'm looking for some advice. First guess would be Grey Goose....but ? |
|
Smirnoff. Inexpensive, and tastes just as good as the high dollar ones. Personally I prefer Gordon's as well...cheap, tastes good, and mixes a bit better than others, I think. Shaker's is another good brand that's not that expensive. It scored really high compared to top-end brands, at a fraction of the cost. |
Sorry I can't, personally I don't like Vodka. Chopin is made in Poland by using potatos. The bottle says it is distilled four times. I like you, like to have a nice assortment of good booze for when friends come over. Some other really good vodka is Hangar One. Now if you had any questions on Tequila I could answer most of your questions. |
+1 My all time favorite is Russky Standart, which is not exported from Russia. Next to that I prefer Stolichnaya ice cold. You'll save a lot of money and its the most neutral, imho. |
My interpretation If you don't like the Jose sent it to me.....
|
Jose is real good for lighting fires for you BBQ. Toss that stuff in the gargabe. The key to tequila is to get a 100% Blue Agave Tequila. Most Jose Cuervo is 51% tequila and 49% sugar alcohol which is why it tastes like shit. Get yourself a bottle of El Tesoro in the Platinum variety and a bottle in the Anejo variety. The silver is for mixing with fresh ingrediants such as limes and lemons and for using to make watermelon margaritas with fresh watermelons. The anejo is for sipping. |

Allow me to recommend Finlandia Vodka. http://www.liquorsnob.com/archives/pictures/finlandia-vodka.jpg Pure and simple, no-nonsense alcohol that can knock your socks off. |
for everyone who said smirnoff , thats like saying steak at the waffle house is just as good than the stuff from a real steak houseNo, I'm not a snob and drink cheap vodka all the time, but I don't lie to myself saying it actually tastes good. For a good vodka its gotta be belvedere, ketel one or grey goose. |

Taste test after taste test expose the same thing, Vodka is devoid of flavor. There is no difference between Smirnoff, Ketel One, Belvedere, Stoli, Gray Goose, Tanqueray, etc... My dad is a Belvedere Cosmo drinker. I ordered him a Cosmo with Smirnoff and he couldn't tell the difference. Vodka is the one liquor where I call BS on the "this is better than that" argument. Don't believe me? Do a blind taste test of three or four and then come back and say I'm full of it. BTW, I drink Macallan scotch and Tanqueray gin. Blake |

I bet I could pick out the McCormacks. That stuff is bad. I have accidentally consumed gasoline that tasted better!

+1 billion. But since it's hard to find here, I usually end up with just Karkov. |
Actually Mithbusters did a show where they were trying the "Run the cheap vodka through the Britta filter to make it taste like the good stuff" as shown on various sites throughout the Intraweb. In the afore mentioned show, they brought in an "Expert", everyone was to arrange (i think it was) 8+ brands/types of vodka from cheapest/worst -to- most expensive/best. While the crew wasn't very good at it, the expert correctly arranged them all in perfect order. Having said that, I do know that not everyone can tell/taste the difference between them at all. I bought a huge $5 bottle of vodka, was in a plastic bottle, damn that was the worst booze I have ever tasted. I still finished it though. Then I got a huge bottle of absolut from my sister, that wasn't bad at all. Now im working on some seagrams vodka a friend gave me, which is kind of a middle ground between the 2 mentioned above... |
I'll agree that most vodkas taste the same mixed since it lacks flavor and is easily masked by other liquids, but straight up you can tell the difference. Try drinking popov straight up and belvedere straight up, you will notice a difference when you start gagging. |

Bullshit. Most vodka starts its life as corn. Archer Daniels Midland distills everclear, which is sold to vodka bottlers, who dilute it to 80 proof and put it in a fancy bottle and sell it to you. Ketel One, Grey Goose... all the same thing. Smirnoff at least filters it a couple times and may run it through their distillery again. Wine Snob Magazine gave it a real nice score too. Smirnoff is the one vodka I can just spin the cap off the bottle and chug away. It's really good stuff, I'd imagine that pouring it over rocks is just polluting its vodka goodness. Warm your belly Smirnoff style. |
Smirnoff is a slight step up from dubra, I'll give it that much credit. Compared to the top shelf stuff, or even stoli, its horrible. If it all tastes the same to you, you probably don't have to many taste buds and for that your lucky. If I had the ability to think smirnoff is the same as belvedere, my quality of life would be a whole lot better. |
, thats like saying steak at the waffle house is just as good than the stuff from a real steak house
