Just thought I'd warn everyone here.

I used Netzero for my ISP for 2 years.  I cancelled when we moved into our new home, back in March of this year.  I was not charged for service for the month of May, but opened up my bank statement today to find I have a charge of $9.95 (monthly service fee).  I call Netzero and they tell me I did not cancel, but they did give me 2 months free.    I explain that I had a confirmation number, and the request to cancel service was submitted by telephone in March.  They reply that the customer service had made a mistake and had not canceled my account in March, but had given me 2 months free.  Why are they giving me the run around?  So the woman gives me a new cancel confirmation number and tells me I will not be charged again in the future.  I asked her why I had to pay for customer service's f#ckup, and tell her I want the charges reversed.  She says "they will be".  We shall see.

Then I did a little yahoo search, seems like quite a few folks have been dealing with thtis apparent scam too

just a sample of folks being ripped off

I will be very surprised to see if this clears up quickly.  What a pain in the ass.

I called the credit card company and they said I need to wait 30 days to see if the charge is reversed.  I hope it ends here, from what I've been reading and have experienced thus far, I'm sure this could become a real headache.

What happened in the case of Sprint?

We cancelled iAmerica many years ago.  Every so often we get a bill from them.

A scam.

That's exactly what AOL used to do, their policy was that you hadn't really canceled until you had canceled service 3 times!  I knew several people who got ripped off by them...

I'm in my second month of training, working for what I thought to be a reputable telecom company...  won't say the name, er... cough... QWEST....

My job title is "Sales and Service", let's just say that is 99% sales and 1% service.  We are rated on our gross revenue per call constantly, but rarely are we evaluated on how well we helped the customer resolve their issue.  We are constantly told that the way to best help a customer is to convince them to buy more products and services.  What a crock!  I spend my day doing damage control - customers are telling me that they are so glad that someone is trying to help them instead of sell them something, yet I don't think I'm going to last very long since I am not meeting our gross revenue per call quotas.

Most telecom companies appear to follow this same pattern - "customer service" is just another angle to sell you something that you would ask to buy it if you needed it.  Granted, a FEW people don't know that we offer other services besides local telephone and LD, and sometimes they jump at the chance to get DSL when they hear that we have it, but typically people have a question on their bill and don't want to buy anything.  Hell, if I want to buy something, I'LL CALL IN AND SAY I WANT IT!!!

Good lord, but until I find a job with benefits to match these or I get fired, I'm stuck working there.

It's not just Netzero. Tons and tons of service companies do this same shit.

Why aren't these companies exposed for the ripoff artists they are?  Is it time to slap asshole companies like these with a monster lawsuit?  Too many people have been getting screwed by these thieves, and it must stop NOW!!
