| Ok i just had lunch at Zaxby's. it is a real good chicken joing here. www.zaxbys.com. They are the kind of joint you order at the counter and are given a pager to tell you when your order is ready for you to pick up at the counter and even have a sign at the registars stating they offer counter service only. I noticed on my receipet, Payed by CC, that they have a place for you to leave a tip. That seems a bit odd to me. I would not think of that as a tipping joint. If i ordered at the counter and they brought me my food i could see that but not if i have to order and pickup the food at the counter. Is it me or is this a bit off? |
IMO, no tip unless someone brings you the food. the "tip line" may be a product of their computer system and not something they requested. |

Waitrons: 15% if they were good ranging to 20% if they were absolutely excellent. If the service was below average, no tip. Delivery people: 10-20% of the bill, whatever means they don't have to make change. Counter food service: Nothing in a fast-food joint, maybe a tiny bit in a nicer place. Counter coffee service: Toss a little change in their jar. |

Too much thought going into this one... It's the Point Of Service software they have, nothing more. Sure, if you wanna tip them, you can, but it's more than likely that they purchased POS software made specifically for the restaurant biz (not for THEM, but for full service restaurants) and that's why the receipts are printing with a "tip" line. |

My local Chinese takeout joint does this too ... I always scratch out the tip line and rewrite the total at the bottom before signing it. I've never [knowingly] had it happen, but have heard that some unscrupulous places will add a little extra for themselves if someone doesn't put a tip on the tip line, and write the total at the bottom ... Easy to do, how often do you compare credit card statements to check the receipt from a $15 takeout order that you had 3 weeks prior? |
