I usually prefer soundtracks as opposed to particular albums by a particular groups. They have variety and usually the songs are the better ones from the selected artists.

Mines probably The Matrix but there are several I like xXx and Resident Evil come to mind so...

David Newman's Serenity soundtrack is wonderful ("There were so many of us..."), although 3 or 4 of the tracks don't work very well without visuals to accompany them -

Heavy Metal - that soundtrack was a permanent fixture in my car all through high school and into college (first on 8-track, then later on cassette ).  One copy of the CD now stays in the changer of my convertible and there's another copy in the house...

Other favorites (distant seconds, all) include Bad Channels, The Godfather, A Mighty Wind, O Brother Where Art Thou, Amadeus, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Empire Records, Flash Gordon, Footloose, and Berry Gordy's The Last Dragon (I have all of those and more on CD and, yes, my taste in music is widely varied... ).

While not my favorite - it is good. I do like that ditty that is ALMOST but not quite "Spooky little girl like you"

And I do want to add - of course the original Star Wars trilogy soundtracks rule.

Also on my list of favorite soundtracks:

the various Xena soundtracks.  Laugh if you must but any tv show soundtrack that that features bagpipes, pan flute, harp, sitar, other exotic instruments & female vocals in Bulgarian (& some Hebrew) makes for interesting listening.

also on the soundtrack list, at #1 {of course]
