My old bike is due to be replaced. I ride my bike to work everyday and that takes me over pavement, dirt roads and through the woods, all hilly terrain. So I need a bike that can go off road, but not serious mountain trail stuff, has disk brakes so I can stopin the rain and is geared so I can go up hills.

It can't be to expensive.

Scott Reflex 40, cost me a tad under $600.00. Rock shock J1 front forks, hardtail with shimano derailers. Dual disk and has double wall rims.

ETA: Pic. Mine is the same except with dual disks.

Try out the Trek Yukon. Front and rear mechanical discs, front shock, aluminum frame. We use to sell the shit out of them down in the Lex. Ky area. About $600.00 if I remember correctly. You can do without the disc brakes unless your in some serious slop. Shimano v-brakes are the bomb (and cheaper than disc spec bikes)

This one's going to go for about $750. Cyclocross is the best of road and mountain bikes. Imagine how fast you can blast through town, ride over anything, and in general have a totally sweet ride. I built one for the William and Mary campus when I went to school there, and sometimes the thought of blowing around school got me out of bed in the morning.

get a hybrid

nix the breaks in favor of better derailleurs (especially the rear) and possibly a lighter wheelset.
