I'm looking at a 2005 2500 4x4 quad cab with Cummins diesel.

Good or bad experiences?

Excellent motor.  Shit auto trans.  Get a manual if possible, or a looooooong warranty.

Peterbilt uses Cummins and Allison.  I wish Dodge did too!

I have a 2005 Quad cab 4x4 Cummins and love it. I get about 19.5 mpg.

Get it.

It has an auto trans. They stopped building crappy tansmisions about 5-6 years ago. If you're gonna do alot of hauling upgrade yer torque converter.

The Cummins is a great motor.

Too bad they wrap a Dodge truck around it

!

Plus 100
the auto tranny is crap
almost nobody makes 50,000 miles on their auto tranny without issues if they actually tow.
plus, it's a crappy 4 speed, you feel every shift.

on the plus side, the dodge is cheaper than chevy or Ford and the Cummins is an awesome motor.
get a stick, don't look back

I own a 2005 Quadcab Longbed 4x4 Diesel, and i love it...

I pull 12,500lbs every other day also...

Great truck for the money...  A comparable ford or chevy runs about $7-10k more, at least when I bought mine during the employee pricing...

I am a ford guy and currently own 3 mustangs.  When it was time for a truck, I went with a Dodge Ram.  Haven't looked back since.

I also owned a 2002 Ford F250SD Supercab Longbed 4x4 diesel, and it was a great truck, but I like my Dodge better...  I have no problems with any brands, but I think Chevy and Ford are getting a little too proud of their product $$$.

PS- I own a concrete construction business and I use my trucks for what they are intended, but I also like to feel home in my mobile office...

I was told the frame on Dodge Rams aren't as sturdy as GM & FORD trucks...

That's why you don't see much Dodge tow trucks...

Sold my Dodge '98 Ram 1500 Auto for a 2006 Ford F-350 PSD with a manual in Feb.  Love it.  CTD is a great engine, too bad the rest of the truck sucks.

The current Gen Ram (which 2005 is) has largely straightened out the issues with the drivetrain, much tougher auto tranny and a different supplier for axles and such than the older trucks.

Also went to a full-tube frame, very stiff.

Dad has a 2003 HO CTD with the auto, doesn't do anything BUT tow with it ands hasn't had any problems whatsoever.

Mid-way through the 2003 model year Dodge heavy pickups underwent significant changes and updates. The older 4-spd auto transmission was scrapped for a heavier duty version that, as far as I can tell, is doing better than either Ford's or Chevy's new 5-spd autos, reliability-wise.

2005 should be a good model and I would recommend you getting one, if that's what you want.
