| I went to the doctor for a physical and was told i have a enlarged prostrate with nothing to worry about. I have also have the peeing problems small stream yellow underware etc. He said for me to see a uriologist and said they may need to go up and rotter rooter me to clean me out . Who has had this done and how painful is it? I have taken pills to help me with this problem but dosent help! |
It's called a Transurethral Resection (TUR) of the prostate. A TUR is performed by passing a thin tube up the urethra via your penis. The tube is a telescope, so the surgeon can see inside your urethra. The blockage is removed using an instrument attached to the telescope that can cut away the abnormal areas. This operation usually means about 2 or 3 nights in hospital. Try the medication route first. Trust me.

Lots of things you can do. Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and spicy foods as much as possible. Drink lots of water. Don't let your pee get too acidic. Make sure Mr. Johnson gets plenty of exercise, one way or another. There is a medication called Uroxatral which works for me when I have problems. Flomax is another. There are many more. Do not let them ream you out unless you flat out can't pee and need a catheter. Try everything else first. It's only a temporary fix, has lots of nasty side effects, leaves scar tissue, and often the problem returns. FWIW YMMV |

Prostrate enlargement is a natural part of aging. The saw palmetto herb has been used in Europe for centuries and works for some. From personal experience, it has relieved the burning sensation when urinating. It must be saw palmetto extract and not simply the ground herbal powder. You can find a lot of helpful info on the Internet. Because of my age (63) I know most all my friends are experiencing the same problems and one has had the "out patient" laser treatment similar to what was described above, but his symptoms returned and they now seem to have his problems under control with oral medications. Welcome to the "Golden Years". Be sure to get the annual exam and don't let them panic you. We came into this world and were put in diapers and it appears many will go out the same way. Semper Fi! |
Making Tea from boiling the silk off of corn helps along with the Palemto herb too. Patty |

I'm 30 and I have these symptoms, WTF? I always have that little stream that no matter what I do doesn't come out until it's back in my pants, I have the burning sensation etc.. Now I used to drink a lot, I mean A LOT but now I might drink 2 beers a month, however spicy food is what I am addicted to now. Is this normal for someone my age? |
Close, no cigar. Technically it's a TURP. It's an out patient procedure 99.9% of the time. Every guy will get BPH sooner or later, many will have a TURP. You wil go home with a catheter for a few days most all of the time. To the above posters credit..they use to stay overnight regularly. New nurses will never know the days of easy patients. Really no big deal....unless, like me, you've sat in on one and watched. ETA: It's not unusual to have this done a few times before you get thrown in the ground. |
. More internet BS. |
Same with a friend of mine..lokk up prostatitis. |
We have Greenlight Holmium lasers that do the procedure. You go home the same day with relatively little pain. If they don't use a laser, shop elsewhere. 80 watts of laser light is shot through a fiber optic, terminating at 90 degrees. It ablates the tissue inside the prostate with no bleeding and material is flushed out with a constant stream of water. We do hundreds of these procedures and the equipment it mobile. Seriously, look into this before they cut you with the roto-rooter!!! |
You make it seem ALMOST pleasant.

Care to clarify? Dare to clarify? And speaking of bullshit..... |
Believe me, it is not pleasant to watch, but the patient is under sedation. You will be whizzing like a teenager the same evening. |
| Perfect timing.... 2 weeks ago I went with the "green light laser ", and can say from my own experience it is a hell of a lot better than the medications. The meds all have varying side effects and will never CURE anything. The pissing problem, especially during the night, will still be there. The laser really is a one day outpatient thing, there will be a little blood, I was immediately glad I did it. Should have sooner. This is why they are called the golden years. Good luck. |
