Yes this is a stupid question but do free float tubes come with the barrel nut or do you buy it separately and if so from where?

Most that I've seen come with a replacement barrel nut and/or equivalent.

Basically, a free float tube is an overly long barrel nut. Sometimes they come in several pieces to make installation and indexing easier.
