Our neighbor was weeding her garden and found a snake, which she hates, so she came over and got me. I zoomed over there and found this little lady sunning on a rock;

I brought her home to re;ease release in our back yard.

EDIT - To fix typo.

A thread involving a snake inhabiting an area within a 100 yard radius of an ARFCOMers houses not involving its immediate death?

Good job GoGop for doing the reasonable thing

No doubt. From previous threads I had assumed that most ARFCOMMER's were squealing little teenage girls the way they feel the need to destroy all snakes.

Nothing wrong with a garter snake. I caught a six-footer once. HUGE for a garter snake. Very stinky though. And one about the size of the one in this pic bit my hand as a kid. I wasn't holding it close enough to the head. Those little fangs still hurt a lot.

Had one in a tank for a while, but it got out.    About a year later I heard the neighbor behind me screaming like a banshee, yelling for someone to kill it. You just can't talk sense to a woman like this.  Poor snake.  BTW, you'd have to drive hours from here to find a harmful snake.

Nice save!

Hooray for the varmint-killing garter snakes!

I've kept lots of them off and on.  In captivity they thrive on earthworms from your local bait emporium.

Garter snakes are the good guys!

I took my daughter on a snake hunting safari.........caught a bunch of them. Mostly garters, but a few ribbon snakes. Did it shit on you when you grabbed it?

Oh yeah, did you get a good whiff of that musk they put off when they are disturbed?  Not really "sickening" just sort of "musty"

Dang, I wish more people were edumacated to protect garter snakes.

Many people say that, but it's wrong. They also tend to be the ones who call any snake near water a moccasin.

I was sittin' in the living room with no shirt or shoes on, and when the neighbor said the word snake I just headed out the door. They can get away pretty fast, so I didn't take the time to put a shirt on.  Sorry guys.  It wouldn't look quite as bad if my left arm wasn't up there for comparison.

EDIT - Oh yeah, she did sling poop and musk on me, but she didn't bite at all. That was pretty odd, because most Garter Snakes i've caught have been quite anxious to bite me. (While also slinging their poop/musk mixture all over. Have you ever had that slung into your mouth? It's leave you spitting for a minute or so).

The Ribbon Snakes seem to be more docile than Garters, at least in my experience.

I used to love catching those things in my yard as a kid, ( and letting them go unharmed )

This just reminded me, I never see them around anymore.  great little harmless snake.

When I was 9 I caught about 7 of those in the same day with my bare hands. Later I also fell asleep with my Ball Python crawling all over me.

I likes snakes.
