Who do you guys use? AT&T has a $12.99 a month offer for a year sounds pretty good.

You can get it and if it is too slow (they just uped the speed so it shouldn't be) you can upgrade it. It is what I use.

Cable internet I believe was what he was going for.

DSL is good if you don't mind a dynamicIP, some places will allow you to have a static IP for a fee.. of course.

Great price, I'd go for it!

You can get comparisons & pricing here at www.dslreports.com

If you're in a RoadRunner/BrightHouse area, they have a slower cable version that's $19.95 a month.
I think it's still faster than most DSL.

I know that this probably isn't something that you have to worry about being in IL and all, but anyone considering DSL should stay far, far away from Verizon DSL. The problem isn't so much with the service itself, but any contact that you might ever have to have with customer support will likely turn into an unmitigated disaster.

Ironically, the problem isn't with the Indians you'll deal with for tech support. Language barrier aside, they tend to be polite and helpful (even if they do start out from scripts when you call with a problem). The real problem lies with stateside customer service/billing.

About 10 months ago I moved and tried to move my service with me. They ended up screwing up and signing me up for TWO accounts and trying to charge me double. It took about two hours on the phone with some dingbat in Baltimore to straighten that out. These people are not bright.

Last month, I was moving again and knew better than to try to keep my service, so I called to cancel it. I gave them May 22 as the cancellation date. They cancelled almost two weeks early, then refused to reconnect it even though they admitted the error.

Now they're trying to charge me for June service even though they've already disconnected my service.

Seriously, avoid them. Dealing with Verizon Online will only end in anger and a gnashing of teeth.

I have it and I like it.  It may be a little slower than cable but it is so much cheaper.  For surfing you will never notice the speed differance.  WAY better than dial-up.
