Lots of Police Roadblock threads going on. As you may or may not remember there was a thread about protesting a Police Roadblock. The posters name was Gwydell, I am Gwydell. I plan on protesting the next Police Roadblock. I am hoping to gather a large group of people to just shut the whole operation down.

Anyway, I want to know what ARFCOM thinks of Police Roadblocks, are you for or against them?

In all honestly I talked a police officer who worked the roadblock the night in question. He told me they only made three arrests.

i can't answer this, too many factors...are they using a natural slowdown to just do quick visual sweeps for tags/seatbelts, or are we talking pull everyone over and demand "papers"  If the first, more power to them, if the second, hell no.

Around here too, and in the paper and on the approaches.  My feeling is that if after all that a guy is drunk enough to get caught (even if they random the cars through) then he is far safer for the rest of us off the streets.

This is SOP on ALL roads crossing into the border area.  Unfortunately most are established sites.

But back in the 1980s, we got stopped on I-10 between San Antonio and Houston for an immigration check.  They stopped ALL WESTBOUND LANES.

used to have them all the time around here, but a judge ruled them unconstitutional, so now the county I live in does the "drunk interdiction" stops,

they start stopping vehicles around 12am to 4am and give a BS reason, like weaving between the lines, tag lights flickering ect., just so they check and see if the drivers drunk, has warrents ect.,

its not surprising that DUI arrests have went up since they implemented this program.

Not around here!  Here they won't even tell the officers ahead of time where these random searches will be.

I still don't understand how someone can justify holding someone without cause for several minutes to several hours just because they happened to drive down a certain road at a certain time.z

I just remember a few years ago, all the law makers were saying:

"Look, it's not like we are going to be stopping each and every car and invading privacy to check on seat belt use....If you happen to get pulled over and you are not wearing your seat belt, thats when you will have a ticket issued...."

Insurance companies won that one, now we have checkpoints for it.

Unfortunately, some are not aware of the difference.

I have yet to hear of anyone in our area actually getting a ticket for any of the stops. The cops put up signs telling everyone what they are doing.

Most of them are standing in traffic hands in pocket and looks like they are waiting for the shift to end.

They have to hate doing it as much as those being looked upon.

I guess I am unfamilar with the law, I just thought probable cause was needed when you go hunting and fishing for evidence.

But what do I know?

When the cops don't have enough manpower to handle the traffic, or they place the searches on a road with a lot of traffic.  Very often around here it takes over an hour to get through one of them.

The city police here always check everything they can to maximize their revenue.  They always check with the state to make sure your car insurance is current and with the DMV to make sure the registration is current.  The warrant check takes a while longer.  It takes a while to compare the VIN # at the bottom of the windshield against the registration.  It takes a while longer to measure the tread depth in three places on all four tires.  About 20% of the time they'll have an animal sniffing around the cars which takes a lot longer since they false positive so often.  Even with four officers working each car, you're still looking at almost four minutes per car to finish the search.  That time really adds-up when you're waiting behind a dozen cars.  Even with just a dozen cars in front of you, it can easily take over an hour to get through it.  I'm GM for a courier/armored car company, and when the city police do their searches on the road to our office (which they do often because we're only a block from their station), it basically shuts us down for the day.z

Why do you need assault rifles? Who needs to legally carry a concealed weapon? Why do people need high capacity magazines? Why are bayonet lugs and flash suppressors available to civilians? Why are people worried about showing their PAPERS at checkpoints?

Around here you drive through, they check your windshield stickers. They check seatbelts. Thats it, unless you have some obvious vehicle deficiency. You don't even show  your license unless you are pulled over for one of the things I just mentioned. You are through the checkpoint in about a minute.

We have, but we get shot down by the bleeding hearts that talk about drunk drivers, drugs, etc... and don't forget insurance companies love to donate equipment and gear for PDs to easily set up radar speed traps that raise revenue for local townships. Guess who makes the final decisions? Council members and mayors/supervisors.

For example, they recently let the peasants vote on whether or not to allow an increase in funding for the local PD. It got shot down by us meager voting peasants but somehow it went back for another appeal vote w/o notifying any of us. Of course, they passed it and our taxes will increase because of extra funding required by the PD. The same thing happened when they appealed OUR vote to turn down the city's decision to build low income housing Basically the citizens voted NO - don't build it, the town appealed it and held a "secret" public vote w/o notifying anyone in advance other than the folks that would vote yes. The second time around it "passed" and they broke ground soon after.

Ironic....porous borders and little if anything done to those caught crossing.....yet they establish roadblocks all over Texas looking for "Illegals".  Illegals at the boarder get sent back, Illegals caught at the roadblocks probably get sent back.  Meanwhile, I sit in a 1 hour line on the highway.  I just wonder what the Authorities CAN'T set up a roadblock for...I suppose it could be for anything under guise of "traffic safety".

Standing in the road for hours doing roadblock/checkpoint works would suck moose balls.  WTF, you could hire/train illegal aliens to check licenses, registrations and inspection stickers.   Eh, assuming that's all the checkpoints are REALLY for.

Some of them probably do think they are wrong, but their hands are most likely tied. Their superiors (brass), city council members, mayors/superintendents, and various interest groups will have their way regardless of what the peasants decide with "voting".
