My mom has a GE side-by-side and the ice maker quit working and later that day water was dispensing constantly without be pushed in.

So, anyone have any ideas what is wrong with it?

Thanks.

PS.  These GE's suck.  My mom has the same model as I do.  I've had to replace several things on mine.

Sounds like a bad water valve. Check your water pressure, it should be around 50 psi. If the pressure is really low like 20psi it can cause the same type of problem you are describing. If water pressure is good replaced water valve and clear the ice out of water fill tube that is more than likely frozen.

So, would that be the Dual water inlet valve that goes on the back on the refrigerator where the supply water comes in?

There's spider eggs clogging the water line or filiter.

Thanks JoeyP.  I had to replace that on mine.  I'll check the pressure on my moms and see if that is the problem.

The water pressure is what keeps the valve closed, and if it is to low it can leak past.

I need to check the pressure coming out of the valve, correct?

No, the pressure going into it. The easiest place to check is 1 of the outside water faucets(pressure will be pretty much the same throughout the house).

Another thing that causes lots of problems with i/m's and water disp's are self peircing saddle valves, these should never be used!!! The owners manual sys not to use them but plumbers and doit yourselfers love them because they are so easy to install. Only the drill out type or a T off the water line to a shutoff behind fridge should be used. Most new houses have the T with a shutoff insid the wall.
