Under what classification falls a firearm intended to be fired from the shoulder with combination rifle and shotgun barrels 11 inches in length?

Thanks

A LeMat pistol fitted with a shoulder stock would not be an NFA item.

I meant one that fires fixed ammunition, sorry for not being clear.

Just teasing you a bit and tagging for interest.

I've always been interested in weapons like the M6.

Well I have found this that goes into great detail about AOWs (which includes combination guns with barrels over 12 inches but less than 18 inches)

I am asking about combination guns that are outside the 12-18 inch net.

Anyone?

Is it an AOW, SBS, SBR,?

Write a letter to the ATF.

Isn't this rather like a short barrel Street Sweeper shotgun, that would be both an SBS and a DD ? Sorry, don't know the answer, but there must be a couple of permutations of such "double-classification" weapon types. The big question is how many $200 checks would we have to cut ?

SBR--- Tell us what you have in mind. There are alot folks here well versed in NFA BS.

The transfer tax for AOWs is five dollars (that way since (1960)

The tax for SBR, DD, SBS is 200 dollars (that way since 1934)

I doubt it can be double classified

Guns like this with barrels 18" and over are not subject to the NFA but again I am asking about  combination guns with barrels under 12

NFA FAQ

                    ANY OTHER WEAPONS

   An AOW is:
"...any weapon or device capable of being concealed  on the
person from which a shot can be discharged through the
energy of an explosive, a pistol or revolver having a smooth
bore designed or redesigned to fire a fixed shotgun shell,
weapons with combination shotgun and rifle barrels 12" or
more, less than 18" in length, from which only a single
discharge can be made  from either barrel without manual
reloading, and shall include any weapon which may be readily
restored to fire.   Such term shall not include a pistol or
revolver having a rifled bore, or rifled bores, or weapons
designed, made or intended to be fired from the shoulder and
not capable of firing fixed ammunition." 26 U.S.C. sec.

I would guesse that it would be a SBR.  If your intention is to cut down an original title 1 firearm, that also happens to be a combination gun (rifle top barrel with a shotgun lower barrel). IMHO, I would use a form 1 just like a SBR build. I would then take a picture of the original gun with a brief explanation that references that it is a combination rifle/shotgun. Again just my $.02
