Most probably know most of this. I read a biography on him and this was all in it, so I belive it to be true. A good tribute to a fine Marine. oldbluejacket.com/CarlosHathcock.htm |

Most members know this but since you posted about him and this was the first you heard of him they also have a rifle with his logo. www.springfield-armory.com/prod-rifles-m25.shtml |
Words fail me. As a former Marine I cannot express the deep pride I have to have served in the same Marine Corps that Gunny Hathcock graced with his presence. His name will certainly live forever in the pantheon of heroes, alongside such greats as Lou Diamond, Chesty Puller and all known and unknown that helped the Marines become greater than the sum of its' parts.

I knew him and his son, "Sonny" Carlos Hathcock III. His son was my Long Range coach at Quantico while I served on the Marine Corps Rifle Team. I inheritted his (Carlos Jr's) berthing spot in Edward J Land III's (son of Major Land ... Carlos' OIC while in Viet Nam) basement in Dumphries VA . Small world. For two years rarely a night passed when I didn't consider how many enemy combatants perished in the dreams where I lay. Kip Carrier |
That's not what I meant at all. I'm almost <overly> respectful of those I admire--including GySgt Hathcock. I asked if he knew the man as he referred to him as "Carlos"--which shows a degree of familiarity, or (IMO) disrespect if he was not a personal friend. THAT is why I asked--I simply didn't want to see the man disrespected. |
understood and appriciated. after gunny passed, it was amazing the number of people that popped up claiming to be a good friend, and disgusting how many people tried to make a buck off of his name. |
