| If you go into a gas station and prepay say $20.00 for gas and go out to your car and start pumping, you aren't really paying too close attention to the pump, and it dosen't stop and goes over a couple dollars should you have to pay the couple dollars. I'm not trying to be an ass here or anything but when I prepay for gas I am under the impression that the pump is going to stop at $20.00. No this didn't happen to me it happened to one of my wifes employees at her store, and she thinks it's the customers fault. maybe watch your pump just to be safe, but I think if you prepay for gas it should stop on the amount you pre paid for. |
My point of view, as someone who has worked in the family gas station since grade school is that if I make a mistake and preset the pump for more than the customer paid for, then I'm screwed. i'm not going to chase the person down, it's my fault and I eat it. I will however accept the money if the customer comes in and pays for the over amount. |
If the station wanted to keep customer "moral" up, then perhaps they'd pay. In the end though, if you pay for $20 and get $22 etc. then you should pay. If it were a twenty gallon difference, then perhaps it would warrant more of a response, but why nickel dime the system....![]()

1. It's really ghetto to prepay with cash. Get a credit card attached to your checking account (I know it's not you who prepayed with cash) and swipe your card before you pump so you don't have this problem. 2. I think the pumps will slow when the total gets near your prepayed amount. If it doesn't start to slow, you may need to stop it yourself. 3. It's not the prepayers responsibility to pay for a few dollars over. $20 over is a different story. |

I'd go inside and ask them to siphon the extra out of my gas tank. However, I'd also be pretty hesitant to "drive off" with gas in my tank that I hadn't paid for (even a small amount) because I imgaine they could technically call the police. |
| the amount that I was talking about was 14 dollars. the guy prepaid 30 bucks, so I don't think that he was trying to steal gas by doing this otherwise I don't think he would have prepaid that much. Just asking for the pump to be turned on is different than pre paying I think. Especially seens how many gas stations require you to pre pay in the begining. If they require that hen they should eat the difference. |
| he didn't run off he went into the store and talked to the clerk, the clerk then called my wife and told her, and my wife said "it's his fault he should have been watching the pump" I then said "If he prepaid the pump should have stopped" She said"it should have but I guess she didn't set it" Well then it's the stations fault plain and simple. even if it's equiptment malfunction I think it should still be their fault. Fix the equiptment and you won't have these problems. |
Thank god I live in america and can say I totally diagree completely. |
Are you the kind of person that would take change for a $20 from a cashier when you only gave her a $10 and not say anything? If so, I don't think God is interested in listening to you. |
| I don't think so I am a very honest person. If I was that employe I would make sure I am doing my job, and if it happened I would put a SIGN on the pump telling everyone "Even though you prepaid, and the pump is supposed to stop it isn't working properly, and will go over if you don't stop it" |
