I've tried lots of food as I got older, and what I determined was that my family settled about 500 miles too far northwest.  I clearly have a southern palate.

Bring on the grits...the turnup greens...okra...cajun food...mmmmmm....

1Shott and I were talking about fried okra the other night... Now THAT is some good food right there. I think my family settled too far north as well. But then I wouldnt have my NY attitude

Kindof makes me think of a runny, very small grain oatmeal.  Takes a lot of brown sugar for me to eat it.

I know it's not oats.  Just describing it another know nothing yankee.

...come to think of it, do Calfornia and Nevada (along with the rest of us late entrance western states) qualify as yankees or are we something else?

You're yankees.

Grits are fucking nasty.  Only time I've had them was in the Army, and I will never be that hungry ever again.

We don't eat that nasty crap over here in my part of Texas. If it ain't carved off a pig and fried, it's not fit for breakfast consumption.

ETA: All grits are is uncooked tortilla meal, and I don't like corn tortillas unless they're in enchiladas.

That is what I was wondering as well... we ARE after all in the SOUTHERN part of this country. Although for people who live in California, the proper terminology is "Screwed"

Corn?

Yeah - maybe after someone chewed it, and then vomited it back up into a bowl.

Grits is nasty stuff.  I think I'd rather eat a spider.
