So I think I gonna start Ham'n.  Is there anywhere that I can take the exam online?  Where are some good sites to check out?  I recall reading a post on ar15.com about Hams but I cant find it. If you could give a linky, that would be great
Also some general tips would be nice.....

thanks in advance

Go to the ARRL site for starters.  Amateur Radio Relay League www.hello-radio.org/becomeaham.html

Google radio clubs and your state.

Exams are now given by Volunteer Examiners, usually affiliated with a club in your area.  You can probably take practice exams on line but the actual test needs to be taken in person..

Getting involved in emergency support activities before the fact is a good thing.  Unfortunately well meaning guys showing up with no practical experience or knowledge can gum up the work.  I've been in this group for almost 20 years now.  members.aol.com/emcom4hosp/index.html#toc I've made several earthquake responses to local hospitals, lots of telephone outages and drills at the county state and federal level.

This literally was a trainwreck instead of a drill.  The drill was about 5 minutes away from starting when a commuter train was hit by a freight train.  And I'm in one of the pix, I'm not really that big, they were all just small.  I was attached to the ER supervisor.  This was our 75th emergency response instead of our 119th drill.

We support 34 facilities in the county, most are acute care/receiving hospitals, several chronic care (respiratory), one State Hospital.  And when the county decided to evacuate several convalescent hospitals because of smoke forom a wildfire, we were there for that also.  We've also drilled with the Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton and the National Disaster Medical Assistance Teams in accepting mass casualties from other parts of the country and in preparation for the advance into Iraq.
