I just ordered a CMP Garand, and am FIRED UP about it!

The only thing is I commission in 2 weeks, then on 6 June i report for 6 weeks of training.  During that time (or perhaps the week before) I will be PCSing to another state.  If I do not receive my rifle before I move, can I have it delivered to a friend's house, and then have him ship it to me once I get more stabilized?  Mind you this would be across state lines.

My head says it would be ok, because it would be MY rifle that is in MY name on the 4437, but what my head says should be right, and what they law says is "right" are often two very differnt things (if they were the same thing i would have a pile of machine guns by now)

So can I have a buddy receive my CMP rifle for me, then ship it to me across state lines without an FFL getting involved?

It's going to have to be shipped to the address that you listed on the form.   That much I know.   If you live in a small town and know the UPS driver, you might get away with it getting delivered to your friend.  My wife received mine at her work because the UPS driver knew I wasn't home, and the school frowns on that kind of thing.

As for shipping it to you.across state lines......I'll bet that is a no-no

Napoleon_Tanerite: I would contact the nice folks at the CMP/DCM, they used to be part of the US Army.  I am sure that they can sympathize, and may have a solution to your dilemma.

I believe they have to ship the rifle to the address on the drivers license copy you submitted.

I believe the law says you can ship a rifle to yourself, even across state lines. I would have your buddy take the package to the UPS Store and then have them call you for your credit card info to charge the shipping to. I'm not an attorney, but I would think since you are paying for it and have proof on your credit card statement, you'll be OK if it was ever questioned.
