makers is good and very smooth but a tad sweet.  for just drinking, jim beam rye is pretty tasty, elijah craig is good too.

While I'm on the liquor topic, here's my take on rum....

1) Don Q white is hard to beat.  Puerto Ricans drink it.  They export all the nasty swill (Bacardi) to us.
2) Ron Zacapa (Guatemala) is worth the $ and hype.  Unbelievably smooth.

Ancient Ancient Age for me.  From time to time I buy a bottle of the really good bourbons and I think I have probably had most of them.  None make a good enough impression on me to buy them repeatedly.  Maybe a bottle or two of the premium stuff around the Holidays, otherwise, Ancient Ancient Age gets thrown in the grocery cart.   Now if I could just convince the MD that bourbon is good for me...

I like Rebel Yell or Jim Beam Balck for everyday, although Wild Turkey makes an occasional appearance too.

For a mixer, I use white liquors.  Whiskey that doesn't taste better straight up than it does adulterated with various types of sugary water is an abomination before God and should not be drunk at all.  (Gin may be mixed with a splash of Vermouth.  Vodka and Tequila can be enjoyed straight up or mixed with antifreeze for all I care.)

For special occasions, I'll drink any of a number of the small batch Bourbons.  (At about $23 a bottle, Evan Williams Single Barrel is probably the best value going for premium Bourbon.)

Ezra Brooks.  It's better than Jack or Jim, and costs $11 or less for a 5th.  If only I could fint it in the 1.75l bottles.

Knob Creek is pretty nice when I want a treat.

I have the following on the shelf:
Old Pogue
Jefferson Reserve
Sam Houston
Bullett

I am thinking of taking the Bullett and mixing it with 5 gallons of water and seeing if it gets rid of the fleas on the dogs.  If it does the same thing to the fleas as it did to my taste buds, it is curtains for the fleas.

Beam is most certainly made in Kentucky. Jack and George are from Tennessee.

Everyday - Turkey 101

Special - Pappy Van Winkle 20 year old

Bourbon-like, but not bourbon - Bernheim's Wheat Whiskey (51% wheat, instead of corn)
