Tossing up the idea of building a secured gun room instead of purchasing a new safe to accommodate all my guns. Am I crazy?

Hardly. Big thread about just that not too long ago. Chock full of good info.

I think when I do an addition to my house, the foundation basement will be a new gun room for me

I sent you an IM about stuff I want to get rid of. Let me know if interested.

I built a room in my basement as a office and in it I built a very secure closet to store preps/guns.  I still put a safe in it because I want to make sure my little boy and his friends never get into them.  The room is about 8ft x 19ft.  I framed up a wall, put double 2x6's around a door frame and put in a nice steel door with very heavy deadbolts/recievers.  I then used 1/2 inch plywood on both sides of the framing.  On the inside I built shelves out of 2x4's and screwed them into the studs and through the plywood.  Im sure you could still get in but it would take some time.  I also put in a old tv and an antenna so I can use it as a tornado shelter and still be able to watch the weather reports.  It was a great investment.  Its like my own private preparedness sanctuary.
