I'm a CRT guy...I hate 99% of the LCD & Plasma displays I've seen over the last few years. With that out of the way, I picked up a 15" LCD HD TV that works great for the pc, PS2/Xbox/360, and for watching DVDs. It's a perfect little "grab and go" solution for all my gaming needs. The 360 looks absolutely sick on this thing. I was impressed enough with this one to start thinking of a widescreen one. This unit has a bad pixel (one of the reasons I hate LCDs), so it needs to go back regardless. They have a 19" widescreen Westinghouse that I can get for $270 after a $100 mail in rebate, making it cheaper than the one I just bought in the end. . The Westinghouse lists 1440x900 as it's native resolution, and list the aspect ratio as 16:10. I have a couple of questions: 1)I don't know many video cards that support that resolution...what happens in that case? If I have to use a more "standard" resolution, will it be letterboxed? 2)Will a 16x9 image be letterboxed in any way? Since I'll be using the widescreen (16x9) mode in just about everything I do, I'm worried about burn in from any long term letterboxing effect. As I said, I have virtually no practical experience with LCDs, so I'm calling on the collective for some help. Thanks! |
| Video cards are able to do more than the standard 4:3 resolutions. As long as the monitor is telling the video card what resolutions it has availible then the video should pump out to the monitor without issue. When you're using the monitor for day to day PC work the full screen area will be used, when you're watching a movie you may still end up with small bars top and bottom. |
