I have a rock river two stage trigger that I got used at a gun show. Seems the guy did something to it and sold it. When I put it in my rifle it worked fine. Now it’s acting funky. When I press it fires and locks the hammer back. When I release it falls and catches. But when I let go slowly the disconnector does not catch and the hammer slips by and fires. I know it’s dangerous as hell and I plan to fix it but is it illegal to have a gun that fires on both the trigger press and the release? |

the danger comes in when your doing two things. 1. your shooting fast. Mag dumps etc and the hammer falls while the bolt is locking up. 2. you accidentally release the trigger to slow and fire it when you don’t want to. Sounds like your bump firing it or target shooting or something… Replace the trigger or take it to a gun smith and have them fix it. Or try to figure it out yourself. It sounds like the disconnector it timed to close and maybe there is a way to lengthen it (I don’t know how the RR trigger works but you can do this with the GI DC). Good luck |

They used to sell one like that for the Mini 14. It had an atf letter saying it was legal. It fired on one action, pull, then on the other action, release, which did not equal a machinegun for THAT part. I would have a letter from the Tech branch of the ATF sayinig it was legal if I kept it. It is like having a shotgun with the barrel blown up and now less than 18". If you take it to the smith to get a new barrel you were never in intentional possesion of an NFA item. Cut the shattered ends off to even them up and you are in possesion of an NFA item. Broke and not in compliance is not illeagal if you are attempting to repair it. Not a lawyer just what I have seen in my life. I ruptured a barrel and put it on the curb on trashday. My gunsmith laughed and said I should have brought the gun to him for repair and it would have been OK. |
