This has been one of the best seasons in years. The place over near McCoy, where I shot a jake on Saturday is all most devoid of turkey's while last year they were thick. Over in Possum Hollow, I think I heard something around 14 different turkeys gobbling this morning. Yesterday I saw 10 in a field on 610 (Christiansburg Pike) just before you get to Little River.

when we moved in there was a ton of them that would scratch at the yard in the AM, now they seem to stay just on the outskirts.
maybe they moved from McCoy to here.

Hell yeah you eat them! Wild turkey tastes better than domestic ones, with the exception of the legs. You do have to cook them differently though. You don't bake them, you smoke'em, grill'em or fry them in a frying pan. I am grilling the rest of the jake that I killed on Saturday.

My problem is that I can shoot the damned thing, but I have no clue what to do with it afterwards.

Hate to break it to you VT, but my 7 year old cousin killed 2 Toms in 2 days.

Granted, it was a youth hunt.

You shoot them with a heavy birdshot and a magnum shell usually, right? Or am I wrong?

Hope it taste(s/d) good.

I thought you bought a house in Da Barber County.

I guess I should get out at least one morning and try to take a tom. Just not into turkey hunting that much though.

Season open here the 27th...it's on. My 3 1/2" #6 is ready. Did we get specs on the bird, or did I miss them? Weight, beard length, spurs?

I shot it with a 12g 3" 2X6 Remington Duplex load. Most people use 4,5, or 6 magnum loads.

That house wouldn't pass the inspection without lots of money. Still renting and only paying $175/month

Now I'm getting hungry.
