Gonna be heading back to Camp Pendleton on tuesday for MCT and I wanna know how its going to be while there.. Like for say Liberty, are you allowed to go off base? Can you use cellphones? Can people come visit you while there? How much freedom do you get while on liberty?

Overall how is it like?

Overall how is it like?

The training itself is quite involved. I went to MCT at Lejeune in 2000 and this is how it went.

10 January: Checked in and was immediatly assigned to Camp Guard platoon for 2 weeks. Got a couple of days of liberty during those first two weeks. Guys assigned to MCT forming, holding, and MAT platoons got the MLK day 96, and nothing else.

24 January: Transferred to Fox Co, MCT Bn. Party over.

25 January: Gear issue, breifings, weapons issued, move to the field. One week of weapons training.

4 Febuary: Back to Camp Geiger, stage, road march to Camp Devil Dog. One week of tactics training, followed by FTX and live fire squad rushes. In the snow. Multiple cases of pnuemonia(sp), hypothermia. Entire company pulled from the field after one Marine lapses into coma.

To answer your other questions:

If you get liberty, you might be allowed of base. SOI is in the middle of nowhere. Cab fare is astronomical, and there isn't much to do in Oceanside if you don't know your way around.

Cellphones are probably okay at certain times if you can get a signal, which isn't likely. Cell phones will almost certainly be prohibited after training begins. This rule is typically enforced by an instructor who will snatch it out of your hand and smash it against the nearest hard object.

People probably can come and visit you if you have time off, which isn't very likely.

If you do get liberty, you will probably be told to stay away from alcohol and which places are off limits. Due to the inability of some young Marines to follow directions, liberty during training like MCT is nearly nonexistant.

Focus more on the training they have to offer. You will need it where you are going.
