What did these guns used to cost brand new?

$400 for a 91 or 93 and $650 for a 94.

I bought my first HK91 and 93 NIB for $800 around 1983 and remember feeling like a class A sucker. You could get a Colt AR-15 for about $300 then.

I also remember wanting a HK94 but not wanting to pay $650. I remember thinking I'd get one if they ever got down to around $500. They never did.

Here is what they looked like NIB.

Very nice. I need to get another '91. I always thought it was too heavy, but I always admired the craftsmanship used in its construction.

That will have to be my next major purchase, no matter how much it costs. I never should have sold mine.

I've shot the 91&93 in the past. I would own one now except they are banned in my state.

When the dollar was strong overseas back in the early to mid 80s, I paid around $400 for a 91-93 & a 94! All A3 models. HK sent me a barrel shroud & Foward grip for the 94 for $34 when I sent in the coupon that came in the box!
Those were the days

So how many were imported prior to 1990?

Anyone know?

In the mid 80's I bought an HK91A2 for $550, an HK93A3 for $650 and a HK94A3 for about $700. I still have them.

Here's the import info for German HK91/93/94's brought into the USA

HK91: 48,817
HK93: 18,299
HK94: 16,633

I was wondering if the clones had killed the market for the real HK product.  I tried to sell a 91 a few months ago and had no takers at all.

I gave $575 for my HK94A3 in November 1985.  The whole setup cost me $660 because I ordered 3 extra 30 round magazines.  Aaahh the heady days of the 80's.

there will always be people looking for the "HK" stamp, but the JLD product that's out right now is outstanding. that's probably going to slow sales on original 91's.

there really isn't any competition on the 93/94 side though. a couple companies that make limited product runs of fair to good firearms, but no real viable options.

I think most 'in the know' prospective HK owners are aware of the problems / lack of quality in the clones.

With all th CADOJ HK94's that have hit the market lately, there is no reason on earth to pay $1K+ for a cheap clone.

HK 93,  in 1988 paid $780 with 6 mags NIB.  The gunshop cut me a  deal because it had been on the rack for so long.   He was griping that he would never carry the darn things again.

I haven't shot the thing since around 2001.  It's just not that good a weapon.

If you don't like that HK93 so much I will gladly take it off you hand for you. For $1,080 plus shipping.  There was a guy here that bought a 93 a few weeks ago for $800.

I have the HK91,93and 94.

Paid $1,650 for the 91 in 1997 $2,000 for the 93 in 2003 and $2750 for the 94 in 2004

Dad paid $450 for his in 1982

Too bad he never got into HK sears or RR MP5s

This is funny as heck.  Do you realize your post is the fourth offer I've had from this thread?  WHY do people want to buy these things for so much? The AR is far superior.

I'll never sell it, it was my first duty rifle. (I stopped carrying the thing for work when the ban hit and the darn thing became worth more than the patrol car it was riding in)

Maybe I'll give it to my niece someday.  She thinks it looks cool.

Now, you want to talk a GOOD HK rifle, take a look at the short lived semi-auto hunting rifles they had around the same time.  Those I really wanted but could not find.

+1
The short live HK hunting rifles were and still are the best semi auto hunting rifles around IMO. I have the whole collection all but the HK 300 in 22 mag.

I have the 270, 630,770, 940 SL6 and SL7 and the SLB2000.

Did H&K ever import any 53s for civilian use? Some police agencies bought them, I know, but I can't recall if H&K ever imported their .223 carbine.

No they weren't even invented when that was possible.

The first machine gun ban was in 1968 and banned importation of ALL foreign machine guns.

That means almost all HK MGs are actually Title II conversions. The exception being any G3 that happened to be imported prior to the 1968 ban and pre may "dealer samples" as well as "post samples", both of which are NOT transferrable to individuals.

All privately held HK53s began life as a HK93 and were converted via a registered receiver or registered sear and that had to be done prior to the 1986 ban. In the same way all privately held MP5s began life as HK94s and were convered in the same manner.

Ah, I see. I googled up the 91 and the 93, but wasn't aware that the 93 was in 5.56mm.
Good to know.

Try HKPro and Sturmgewehr for a DOC gun. They are still about $1,000 cheaper than the previous goning rate for a 94 in that condition.

Back in the early 80s in New Jersey of all places I paid $500 for an HK-91.... I semi regret selling it only because of its value today.  I did use the funds to buy an FAL which I still have to this day

In 1983, I picked up a 91 for $495 from a local hardware dealer who had a FFL.  That price included his 10% over cost price, sales tax, and the percentage that Visa charged him for me to use my credit card.  A year later, I had my own FFL.  H&K was offering factory direct sales of accessories.  I picked up 3 mags, a light bipod, and a cleaning kit for $100.
