You never know what you could find in others peoples junk!

Good for the girl in returning it. Karma will treat her well.

They don't call it "Savers" for nothing.

A Gilbert man got a check for $14,500 Thursday after a Savers thrift store employee found a shoebox of money the man unknowingly donated in a pile of clothing.

The Gilbert man, whose name was not released, recently gave his deceased wife's clothing and shoes to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona, one of Savers' partner charities. advertisement

In the pile happened to be a shoebox in which his late wife had stashed about $14,500, without her husband's knowledge, said Roy Bannon, Savers' Arizona district manager.

The donated goods made it to the sorting room of the Savers store at Bethany Home and 27th Avenue, Bannon said.

There, new employee Melissa Lopez found the shoebox stuffed with cash and turned it in to her supervisors.

"My heart kinda skipped, and it took me by surprise," said Lopez, 27.

Savers' policy dictates workers must turn in any found money, so Lopez said she never gave it a second thought.

Police tracked down the Gilbert man, and he got a check from Savers. Lopez got a surprise, too. He gave her $500 as a thank-you.

Reminds me of that joke about the box with $10,000 and three golf balls.
